  1. Coolness to each their own.. In-spite of the caution I'm probably gonna continue mixing oil. Since I've actually been doing it for quite sometime without any report-able issues seems like a good idea to me.. From a hands on "I've done it" "I'm doing it" point of view I think it's great. It would be hard to have an informative discussion with someone who has not tried it or has only heard that it's a "bad idea". I guess at the end of the day as long as your motor has oil in it you'll probably be ok.. Also, my cars are happy when I use dino but they're happier when I use synthetic......If happy is a gauge of measurement.... As listed 1971 2002 4spd...32/36 synch linked.. colorado 1970 2002 5spd...38/38...granada 1970 2002 4spd...32/36...golf 1974 2002 4spd...TII...Fjord 1970 TR6...Weber 40's x3....I really don't know what color it is it looks black but some days it's purple Anyway, plenty of cars to try stuff on.. ira
  2. Hi Simeon... You mean like Italian salad dressing after not using it for a long period of time =)...Could be, but I doubt it.
  3. I like threads about oil.. I changed my oil today here's what I used.. 2 qts Castrol GTX 20W/50 Synthetic 16 Ozs. Engine "restorer"& lubricant The rest Castrol Edge 0W/40 Synthetic Not sure where this falls in this conversation but I like to create my own blends and so far my cars like the blends.. ira
  4. I know the difference between a re-built head & bottom end vs. a detailed head & bottom... This is a solid buy.......But...If it weren't for the fact that I currently own 6 cars, four of them BMW 2002's (one TII) and the fact that I want to give you right to refusal, because I respect 02ers, and I said I'd look at the car for you, I would buy the darn car..... What you should do is take a shit or get off the pot..... I almost want to buy the car so I can race you against whatever you're driving now, just to so you know you snoozed on a good thing, but that's my opinion....And we all know what they say about opinions.... Again as a sportsman in the same game, you have first right of refusal as a finder... ira
  5. Oh taking photos is difficult in there....It's literally inside of a dimly lit warehouse....And it does not have dual webers it has a 32/36 with the manifold....
  6. Oooooo So, I went and saw the car tonight. The guy Jeff is super cool. He has the car in a warehouse with several other cars.. The car a 1974 Fjord, damn I did not get the VIN... But the car is complete. The 5sp tranny is installed. The stereo is installed along front and back speakers, the front speakers are in the door. Suspension super stiff, I did not get under the car to see what it's suspended by but I sat down on and pushed all four corners I like it .... No rust on the towers, rockers, spare tire wheel weld. There's rust on the front edge of the functioning fully operational sun roof... Roof liner is in grrrreat condition...The paint it maybe re-done not certain but it looks good minus flaking roof paint and primer on the front quarters of the driver and passenger side fenders... Tires have alot of meat left on them. Rims look great.... There's surface rust on front underside of the hood along with the portion of the hood where the sound dampeners go... The engine is new . It has been rebuilt. The head and the block have been re-built, extremely clean. I looked through the exhaust ports and saw the valves they look brand spanking new. The story is that the PO had another motor in the vehicle while this one was being re-built. The current owner then removed the previous motor and put it into another 2002, however he did not re-install the current re-built motor....Make sense to me.... The car is on non op, pink slip is in hand.. Photos I took alot of photos however I donot know how to load them.....I am going to text them to e30edm maybe he can load them.. Oh the seats are Scheel they both have the Scheel plaque on them . They should be refurbished at some point... ira my number is 510 258 5514 I can text photos to any interested party....
  7. Ray Good photo...Looks like the seats are authentic ira
  8. No no no Steve Your point of view is incredibly valuable..."Beat up on" is not a literal phrase.....Anyway, I love you, man... Hey I just talked to the guy. He's a car guy. This is a project car in that it has been sitting for awhile. He bought it through an estate sale. He's a car guy from way back. He says the car has waaaay more into it than he mentioned in his narrative and yep Steve those seats are super expensive and that seems be the theme of this car, is it has some super parts to it that have gone unmentioned.......Like the diff and tranny along with the dual webers..... The motor is not in the car, but it is re-built, the suspension is re-done by P.O.. The car has a high end stereo installed....... The paint he's not sure about the paint, he believes it's original BUT we both said at the same time especially after meeting him verbally "who cares" Why is this "gem" for sale? He has a bunch of projects, numerous cars, and he needs to move out of this warehouse... Anyway, the dude sounds as legit as they get....Dude is "wrench".............Not a craigslist flake...In my opinion..Forgive my quick notes I'm moving stuff to storage Stay tuned ira
  9. Well, The guy is pretty responsive....I'm supposed to meet him tomorrow at noon. I'll call him back after 9am, guess when i called at 0730hrs. it was a bit early.. I plan on seeing it. I'll take some more photos. And ask him about the car but so far so good...... ira
  10. Wow fast response.. He wrote me back in just a few minutes after I sent the e-mail..I'm about to call him.. ira
  11. Hmmmm I wouldn't beat this Fjord up to much. Looks like a good car no thanks to the photos... The rust bubbles don't seem to bother me....BUT that's me.......I think it's diamond in the rough....Also you'll notice in these poor photos that he has another BMW 2002 parked behind this BMW 2002..... Shucks we might be pleasantly surprised.... I just sent him an e-mail....I'm in Oakland everyday if he writes back I'll check it out....
  12. Just going along with the fuel angle.. Maybe after resolving the unknown problem from last week you've maybe enhanced the flow of fuel...Maybe turning down the fuel just a skoosh on each side of your 38/38 or one side at a time....Adjust just enough not to create another variable...Or just turn down the screw that controls both barrels, small small increments...Which I'm sure you already know.. Or it could be running lean which would mean do the above in reverse You'll get it ira
  13. My vote is the coil.... Just because it happened so suddenly. Plus the fact you stated that it cranks but does not start.. Or or or or it could be the spring loaded button inside the top of the distributor cap. I'm 1000% certain you'll find this small problem... ira
  14. Nice car...If you have the money buy it... As far as a teenager driving a 40 year old car hmmm....Seems to me that a teenager would get into an accident faster in a more modern car with with more capability of speed just for the fact that they are fast and why wouldn't a teenager go fast, take more risk in such a car.. Seems to me that a teenager driving a 40 year old vehicle would be less likely to have an accident. Me thinks if a person were to do a Google search of teenagers involved in accidents driving a 40 year old car vs. teenagers that drive more modern cars...I think the number would be higher for the more modern car..........Albeit there are less safety measures (ie: airbag, crumple zones )involved in a 40 year old car but most likely you won't get into an accident.. I vote buy the car...Your son's cool points will go up to just about 1 million, be young have fun... or just buy a tank....No modern or classic car on the road can ever crush that. ira
  15. Right when he reported his car stolen......It was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System...Anyone (officer) who makes a file check of that license plate of this (unique car) and any other car that has been reported stolen the message will come up as "stolen vehicle".....That's nation wide for any law enforcement agency including CHP
  16. Nope Ian it's not your fault at all....You did your job you shaped an incredibly beautiful car. I blame it on the heartless criminals that society has to make a contingency for on a regular basis...Unfortunately good people pay the price... ira
  17. @Lisa continue using your "club" in-fact consider purchasing a "clutch club"and or an alarm. Any lock can be defeated eventually, but the club still a deterrent.... I saw one cool idea on YouTube. After parking his car for the day. The guy switched the coil wire at the distributor with another wire on the distributor. At first glance most folks in a haste would not be able to tell the difference,,,,,And to a thief that is moving very fast he'd probably certainly over look it... Or remove your rotor, put it in your pocket or somewhere replace when you return.... Anyway, the car won't start in this condition, cheap security..... There's probably a whole host of cheap things we can share to ensure the safety of our precious 02' hmmmm without checking (forgive me thread sheriffs) maybe that could be the next thread...."How prevent the theft of my 02'" I've written hundreds of stolen vehicle reports, in those hundreds less than 5 have utilized a club. And none of the 5 had the steering wheel cut or had the steering wheel removed (not saying it can't happen). One of them was cold blooded the thief left the club laying on the ground where the car was parked.....I actually laughed at that, not at the loss but the audacity of the crook.. Anyway, I use the steering wheel club on one of my 02's and an alarm. Then I use the "clutch club" on two of my other 02's so far so good... The unfortunate thing about Ian's loss is the thief specially wanted his particular car, more than the normal 90's Honda, Saturn, Toyota's that are stolen joy ridden, parked, dumped after committing an additional crime or it runs out of gas............So, Ian's car might be found eventually but it will be difficult and it probably won't be in the short term..........Luckily this is a small community so the vehicle will not be easy to unload..... Hopefully it comes back soon ira @Lisa continue using your "club" in-fact consider purchasing a "clutch club"and or an alarm. Any lock can be defeated eventually, but the club still a deterrent.... 18. Try some liquid engine restore.. Check it out on Youtube......Unless there's an extreme mechanical problem....It may be a waste of time. However, I now use this stuff at every oil change and even before I changed my oil, just as a try....I found a good and noticeable difference in the way that my car performed..... Top end speed went up. Throttle response was better. Response in every gear was super noticeable......I thought it was snake oil, but I was proven wrong.. Just my experience. It comes in 4 cylinder and 8 cylinder sizes. Yesterday I put the 8 cylinder size in just for boo-boos and giggles...I was not let down.. Just a thought ira
  19. All Good Dave... It's all hypothetical........Part of a discussion.. Fatherof 3..Nice tire sculpture.. ira
  20. Posted Today, 02:13 AM peterschop, on 07 May 2015 - 1:10 PM, said: +1 Due to liability issues with older tires, many of the larger tire retail chains have instituted such policies. Kauffman Tire, for instance, a Southeast chain, will not mount tires more than 3 years old. Regards, Steve Thanks for the advise all.... However, I drive into Oakland , Ca everyday and if you know anything about Oakland, there should be no doubt in your mind that I can get "4" 12 year old...100 year old...1000 year old tires mounted......without incident...literally......... Given the physical description of these tires sans the age....I would try them...But, that's just me... That being said all of the FAQ members that rotate their tires off just because they have simply aged and have no obvious sign(s) of wear, separation or ruin please send them to me.............I have "4" of these cars. I'm sure I can use them or store them for future use...... Thanks a bunch for any consideration ira
  21. I would definitely use them..... There's no absolute or definitive reason not to according to your description... In fact if you really want to get rid of them I'll take them.....I'll pay the shipping fee to California on Grey Hound... You'll be ok...Just drive.. ira
  22. Hi Paul Super cool visit with you and your. Nice car you've done alot of work and it shows...That was the cleanest under body I've seen ever on a 2002...... Anyway, it seems after a few minutes of tinkering that your car is in a better place/space hopefully it was not luck...But sometimes it's better to be lucky than good... Never the less the idle held hopefully it continues to hold.... Have fun ira
  23. Hi there Paul... I'm glad you got the chance to beat the flu....I felt bad for not getting back to you. I'm a cop in Oakland..I've been busy, tired, and busy....all at the same time =)))...Noon sounds good for tomorrow..... I believe the rain is supposed to start shortly and clear up by mid-morning... Is your carb a solex? ira
  24. Hi there Paul....Oh assumed that this entire thread was surrounding a weber...Guess I was wrong, I'm still available to check out whichever carb you have I need to stop by the coast guard Island auto hobby shop anyway....Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning works for me... 510 258 5514 ira
