  1. Gas is cheaper these days, I'd drain the tank and properly dispose of the two week old gas and the sediments. You are running at least 92 octane, correct? FWIW, I've only been running pure (no ethanol) gas in my tii (www.pure-gas.org). Likely not convenient for a DD. While you're in there, a bit of scope creep can be to replace your hoses. Order from your dealer or favorite supplier but make sure they're "correct" ones (rated for the high press and gas). Good luck
  2. Hi Paul, if memory server me correctly, the blue circle shows the oil return line. I had to remove my KF to send it out for some work by Wes Ingram some years ago and I remembered to take a couple of snaps. I got all my hoses from Rob at 2002Haus and replaced them (including the KF lines, oil feed line and heater hoses) before it went back in. The above picture might not look 100% correct as some of the hoses may have been rotated or moved during the removal of the KF. The oil return is the red-capped nib shown below. When I was in there I replaced the KF belt. Getting to the hose clamp on the bottom of the KF is hard to get to. Might be easier to get to it from the block side - depending on the how the clamps align. I recall that removing the throttle linkages helps. Removing the long bar from to the firewall pivot helps but It is a very tight fit. I would not recommend removing the KF as it is painful as getting to the fasteners that bolt the KF to the oil filter bracket are (for me) very hard to align. Not as painful as the pedal box renewal or replacing the brake/clutch bracket for the e28 though. Good luck
  3. Okay, here's my experience. I've purchased a couple of items from Bryce without issue in the past and missed the on-going thread. The last item I PayPal'd was a "Under Ignition Trim, Non-cracked w/ No Key Rub Mark" back on 8/20. I now wonder who else bought the part. Since then I've talked to Bryce/DenverTii/Mark Target 3x times and each time he assured me the part was being sent. Follow up emails were sent on 9/1, 9/4 and 9/9 (after each call confirming the conversation). On 9/9, I received a notification from stamps.com that package 9405511899561198985483 was being sent to me (1-3 day priority). The tracking number still shows no status updates and I've since filed a claim with Bryce/DenverTii/Mark Target with PayPal. He's not responded yet and I provided information about other's experience here on the FAQ to PayPal. Funny thing is, I've tried to leave negative feedback but keep getting an error message of "The deal link is invalid, please correct it". I'm not posting a deal link. I'll try again later as the now 83% positive feedback must be inflated.
  4. Hi John, Been busy with work but here's my thoughts for what it is worth. I had my 72 tii rebuilt by Leif Anderberg back in 1990 under the misguided dreams of more power in my youth. 292 Isky cam, 10:1 pistons and a e12 head. Had I known then what I know now I would have kept the stock cam. As expected it ran lean so I went to Wes when he was still in Seattle and had him install the linkage. Wes is a great guy and runs the cleanest shop I've see. If you insist on the non-stock cam then it's probably the best reasonable fix. Be advised he expects to be sent a clean KF. I had narrow band sensor that didn't really tell me much so I recently upgraded to WB with the group buy but haven't finished the install yet. I'm hoping to finish it up soon and then evaluate mixtures across the board. I'm assuming i'll need to make some comprises. if I get my act together, i'll drive down to Rob's and put a stock cam back in but I'll miss the kick above 4k. HTH. ColinK
  5. Sadly, I saw the shiny object last year when buying some parts for him. What happened later when I gave him a lift to the market resulted in a very uncomfortable and illegal situation that I never want to repeat. Probably naïve of me at the time but I didn't see it coming. Staying well clear this time. ColinK
  6. Hi Kubi, I just sent you my info. i'd also sent an email yesterday through your site's contact us page colink
  7. If not to late, i'd like to add my name 1. GoFaSSter 2. Henrygabs 3. Lilcphoto 4. PG7202 5. 2002dean 6. GAHRNDEZ 7. gsmith3 8. blindrhino 9. peterschop 10. colink thanks
  8. Or.... if the tie rods, center link are the originals from '75 or if the last steering gear refresh is unknown then i'd look at that as the source. while you're at it, new ball joints and watch out for scope creep...
  9. "Bought a jug of 50-50 coolant" Once you get the leak fixed, completely drain the system (don't forget to open the drain for the block - check the FAQs). Refill with BMW coolant (or MB) as that 50 50 stuff most likely won't play well with the head.
  10. I've gone to using only "pure" gas lately - http://pure-gas.org just say no to ethanol. I know, not practical for a daily driver but it works for my driving habits.
  11. Grainger, McMaster Carr and Maryland Metric are all online places I've used. For local stores here in the Seattle area there's Tacoma Screw and Stoneway Hardware. I like the selection of Stoneway, various grades and pitches, metric washers, stainless, copper, etc. If I need an OEM item I'll give Rob at 2002 Haus a call.
  12. BillW. Yes, use the 3M ribbon sealer as the gasket for the box to the firewall. I "think" I used the 7/16"(?) width and put it on the box and. the material is putty-like so when I tightened the box up it spread out and around for a nice seal. Was pretty cheap from my local auto parts store. ColinK
  13. "Any tips for getting the slave out (is it just a press fit)." There are ciriclips holding the slave in. Haven't done the steering box (yet) - someone else will chime in on that.
  14. "better yet, install a new clutch master (which will come with the grommet) since you're in there already. If you replace the master, you should also replace the slave too. Scope creep at its finest." That's what I just recently did when I pulled my pedal box. I began with the assumption that a return spring had broken (was actually the clutch master). I'm assuming you replaced the bushings in the pedal box, addressed any the rust and replaced the insulating foam. Thanks to Rob @2002haus for the tips: using the 3M ribbon sealer for the gasket. better than plumber's putty. if you master was an original with the steel clevis, transfer it to new master and replace the aluminum one. The pedals have an entirely different feeling to them now. The original project started out as addressing a misfire.....it's a long story but aren't they all. ColinK
  15. Correct. the mounting holes line up and it is a bolt in. I found mine (but have yet to mount it) on s14.net a number of years ago.
  16. Great post Rob and glad you found the source of the leak. Are you going back to the original plenums or stay with the TEP ones? Colink
  17. Pretty much my setup: H&R springs - new Bilstein HD shocks/struts (new) Fixed upper plates with stock strut mounts (new) IE 22mmsway bars with polyurethane bushings new Poly bushing front/rear Stock engine mounts poly tranny mount Stock tii brakes front and rear 14x6 wheels 195-60-14 tires I replaced my old no-name short springs last year the H&Rs, It made a world of difference. Took the harshness out and made me not regret the switch to poly bushings.
  18. I've been meaning to douible check this on mine also. Great write up. As Bill Williams said, "Bob's your uncle"
  19. Rob at 2002 Haus took care of the whole set up. The pads are the ATE OEMs. He also set me up with the Zimmerman rotors. Opening the boxes was better than Christmas morning.
  20. Thanks for the input. Didn't think of doing that at the time and sounds tempting. I doubt I'll be back in there soon as there's other things to tackle like... -replacing carpet. -installing 5 speed Next time......
  21. Spent Memorial Day weekend installing my re-built caliper from Rob and 2020 Haus. Calipers were beautifully re-built and re-plated with new bleeder screws and caps. Mounted new Zimmerman discs, new bearings and flushed the fluid. Almost a shame to drive the car and get brake dust all over the new setup. Going to be a great summer.
