Title Transferred to Hoffman the next day

On April, 21, 1972, the 1st owner, Jim Easterday drove off the lot of Global Imports in Atlanta, GA.

With 127,328 miles on it, on April 3, 1985, the second owner bought the Tii in Atlanta, GA.

I am now the owner and it has never been titled outside of the Peach State!

It might be an early April car. If the door VIN sticker is showing March, it may be one of those cars discussed above, for which the door VIN sticker shows the month immediately prior to the "manufacturing date" per BMW Archives. An email with your VIN to Archives would verify (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com).

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2781410 was manufactured on February 25th 1974 and delivered on April 1st, 1974 to BMW of North America .The original colour was Amazonas Green, paint code 078.

 

I have the paperwork showing that the car was picked up at the factory in Munich as Euro delivery, driven around Europe for several months, then shipped to the US. 

I am the second owner, purchased in April, 1982.

If the door VIN sticker is showing March, it may be one of those cars discussed above, for which the door VIN sticker shows the month immediately prior to the "manufacturing date" per BMW Archives. Definitely an early April car. See my information below. I have a 73 Malaga tii built 8 cars before yours, and it too has lived it's entire life in SD county. I purchased the car in Mt. Soledad.

This is especially interesting because of the car's transfer to BMW NA, rather than Hoffman Motors, on April 1, 1974 -- earlier than I thought was possible. We need more data regarding the date when BMW NA assumed the sole importer role from Hoffman Motors. The April 1 date might be entirely random or accidental, but I wouldn't be surprised if the sole importer role changed on the first day of a month!

 

By the way, does the paperwork show the delivery date in Munich?

One I almost bought in GA a few years ago

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2760617 was manufactured on January 18th, 1972 and delivered on January 21st, 1972 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Chamonix, paint code 085.

Tii engine now in my 69

the car with the identification number 2762332 is a BMW 2002 tii US-Version that was built on 26th of July 1972 and delivered on the 31st of the same month to New York. The car was originally in polaris metallic.

Portion of 2010 email exchange with one of the previous owners of my 73tii (Philly area):

Hello, im very happy that you bought my car, its nice to know its being taken care of by a person like you, not much more i can tell you. the dealer was not daniels, it was being sold at a small car lot on 15th street, just south of tilghman st. and he was selling it for some else. is i remember it came from a man in NJ,i think a dentist, the car was hit , the man in NJ sold it the the man i bought it from, this man repaired the car , that's when i got it, maybe if you run the vin# through NJ transportation dept. you may find out more there good luck a please keep in touch, i think of the car offen, lots of memories. if you decide to sell again please contact me, i have the funds now. how would you like a 1969 corvette convertable, 350 4 speed, very good shape, its black, also a hard top come with it. a nice collector car. maybe a trade???? ok take care Bill

Interesting Jim - my car, VIN 2760698 has the same manufacture date with "Delivery" to Hoffman the next day as provided by BMW Archives.  That's a lot of Tii's on Jan 18, '72!

The Acceptance Receipt from BMW AG (dated April 1, 1974) actually does show Hoffman Motors as the "Importer", the "Customer" on this document shows the original owners name.
