Hella rear fog light

If you have a "roundie", you don't have choice but to put the rear fog light on the left side, otherwise it would be in front of the emblems. On a LHD car, it makes sense as the light will be closest to the median of the road.

On a RHD squarie however, common sense would be to put the light on the right hand.

Hi Chris,

I live in Michigan and our DMV has no laws on rear foglights.

I did find that the State of California has regulations on the matter as follows:

A vehicle may be equipped with not more than two red fog tail lamps mounted on the rear which may be lighted, in addition to the required tail lamps, only when atmospheric conditions, such as fog, rain, snow, smoke, or dust, reduce the daytime or nighttime visibility of other vehicles to less than 500 feet.

When two lamps are installed, one shall be mounted at the left side and one at the right side at the same level and as close as practical to the sides. When one lamp is installed, it shall be mounted as close as practical to the left side or on the center of the vehicle

The lamps shall be mounted not lower than 12 inches nor higher than 60 inches

The edge of the lens of the lamp shall be no closer than four inches from the edge of the

lens of any stop lamp.

A non-flashing amber pilot light that is lighted when the lamps are turned on shall be mounted in a location readily visible to the driver.

the object of a ' REAR FOG LIGHT ' is to protect

ones arse from being rammed from the rear by overtaking

vehicles during low visability conditions. Night, snow, dense

fog and rain. The 'fog light' goes on the side of overtaking.

In AMERICA (LHD), that would be mounting it on the drivers

side - people overtake you on your left. In other right hand

drive countries, the fog light goes on the right rear

corner. The light marks your vehicle for overtaking

clearance. Put the light in the wrong position, and the

overtaker might be your undertaker. This also means that

the light is only used during those conditions when you can't

see your hood star. The rear fog light has a 21watt bulb,

combined with a large reflector and 'cut' lens - means

your annoying the sheit out of following drivers who think

something is wrong with your brakes lights !

- and it's damn bright.

adjust yer anti-sway bars for wet.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

These were quite popular - and VERY necessary - in Germany's northern central area, where fog can literally be thick as soup. I remember my dad, who was quite the bonzai sportscar enthusiast, crawling along the shoulder of the road to our house, just so he could follow the line at the edge of the road to know where he was going. The fog was so dense, you couldn't see 3 feet in front of the car; I've never seen anything like it here.

On the way to Ofest 2001 in NH I went thru fog in southern VT after midnight that was so thick I was driving down the center of the road to follow the white line. VT doesn't paint edge stripes, so staying in the middle kept me from running off the road. Fortunately there was no other traffic.

I use mine in heavy rain, as roundie tail lights are pretty dim in the daylight, even during a rainstorm.

RESURRECTED POST.

Can anyone share a copy of the wiring scheme for a BOSCH rear fog light / brake light mount? Like the comment above, I'd like the "light" to serve as a fog (parking) and as a brake light.  I tried the link but it's "lost in the archives. Thanks in advance.

To me, this is just about the coolest accessory for an '02

For those of you who aren't aware, a rear fog is standard in Europe.

My CSL, Euro 745 have one in left taillamp assy, Our Mercedes (US) have as well.

'02 doesn't have fog in taillamp (that I've seen) - it won't fit.

I use mine on a rainy night, heavy snow, etc.
