  1. Crap, my mistake. Looked at too many cars in a row - I thought this was a '76.
  2. Is it safe to assume that this car has to be smogged in here in CA? Any problems with that?
  3. LOL. Not on purpose - mine has bottle caps, too. What color and year is it?
  4. Oops, sorry for the multiple post then. I searched for it, but it was from my phone and all I found was a thread about NorCal guys cruising down together. Here's all I saw that was '02-licious, along with some other favorite finds, etc. - remember, you asked for it.
  5. Great show, and just an overwhelming number of BMWs in one place. I've been meaning to make this show for about 25 years, and finally did it - and was incredibly impressed. Was happy to see quite a few more '02s than expected, too. (Got pics of just about all of them, if anyone's interested) Would be interested to know if any of them belonged to someone here!
  6. Good stuff! Here's my son (now 26!) and I back in '91 or so, right after the car's original re-furbishing:
  7. ^ You beat me to it! Still, whatever you choose to call it, OP, your car looks great!
  8. Excellent - thanks, guys. And yes, just rolling; no cornering or braking forces involved. I figured they'd work, but it was nice to verify before driving 60+ miles round trip to my storage unit and digging them out from under all the other crap!
  9. I need something just as rolling stock on my '74 for working on it and transporting it. I've got a nearly new set of '93 Miata 14" alloy wheels in storage (the ones that kind of look like Panasports). Does anyone know if they'll work??? TIA -
  10. I drove mine for about 2 years on a 60-ish mile round-trip commute and managed about 23MPG in L.A. traffic...right up until my darling ex-wife decided it was OK to continue driving it home after it had over-heated...
  11. It's the Greek Steve McQueen!
  12. Well, I feel fairly qualified to address this, since I've had both, with the BFGs on several different cars from FWD import coupes to classic Mustangs. The G-Force Sports are an incredible tire. Sticky (beyond the limits of what I've mounted them on), great steering response, excellent in the wet, very "communicative" when pushed, and above all, VERY affordable. I've seen more than one vintage Shelby running them on track events. Their downside is weight, rough ride, and road noise. Very loud tire, even on cars of several different layouts and weights (see above). That said, I've just picked up a set of the Direzzas a couple of months ago, and have been extremely impressed so far. Handling is superb (though with a bit more quick breakaway than I like at the limit, but that's being pushed quite hard), steering response is razor-like, (have not yet had them in wet, so can't comment there), and they've been VERY quiet - so I'm not sure what the comments about noise are, other than that may be something awaiting me in the future - and an extremely smooth-riding tire. How's that to confuse you more???
  13. I've gotta vote for keeping it - looks great setting off those wheels, and it breaks up a fairly slab-sided stretch of sheet metal.
  14. I couldn't have said it better myself. These were quite popular - and VERY necessary - in Germany's northern central area, where fog can literally be thick as soup. I remember my dad, who was quite the bonzai sportscar enthusiast, crawling along the shoulder of the road to our house, just so he could follow the line at the edge of the road to know where he was going. The fog was so dense, you couldn't see 3 feet in front of the car; I've never seen anything like it here.
  15. Wow...Prozac, table for one please... ; )
  16. Definitely! Having grown up late in the "era" of drive-ins, I still have some great memories (wink-wink) of them, and still love 'em. The only problem, at least out here, is that the few that are left are mostly in some pretty questionable areas, that I'd hesitate taking ANY car (or my family!) to. Glad you got to enjoy one -
  17. I had 'em on my Scion Toaster (commuter car). Mine were progressive coils, dropped the car exactly the 2" quoted. They were a much better ride than other dropped "Toasters" I've ridden in, and the handling was phenomenal over stock...
  18. Aw, I wish I'd known! I talked to a couple of the other 2002 guys, but had no idea anyone from here was there. I'll keep an eye out for you next time - We had a blast - there were more than a few of us "bitten" by the bug to do some track events, using both vintage Mustangs, and older sports cars and sedans that quite a few of us own.
  19. VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Assoc.) hosted our Mustang club last weekend to their event at California Speedway in Fontana. We got to park and view from the pits, so that was pretty cool. Since there were quite a few '02s there (AND Alfas, 510s, etc.) I figured you guys might enjoy these. It definitely planted a seed in me about the possibility of doing some track events with the 2002... The yellow Mustang in the foreground of the first shot is mine (and I've got more Mustang shots if anyone is interested!) as we were starting to line up for our turn on the track. Enjoy!
