This tii was in the Washington DC area for a number of years - now for sale in MN.  Is anyone familiar with this car / owner?  I have a friend in the DC area interested, but don't recall seeing it.  Thanks!

John....I don't recall ever seeing it either.  Looks to be a nice example.  The item location said it was in

Saint Paul, Minnesota now.  I wonder how long ago it left the DC area.

It's always tough to figure how anyone really thinks they'll sell a car for over $25K with no more than 3 photos.:o

+1

I judge the (a.) quality of a restoration or (b.) originality of an “un-restored” example by the engine compartment....

Without a single engine compartment photo, I assume the worst: they didn’t spend a cent under the hood, or that ‘72 tii’s got a Toyota Supra engine.... ?

Best regards,

Steve

Don’t get me wrong, from the photos shown, this looks like a good car: a very early 1972 tii (manufactured October 1971 presumably) in a classic color combo — I’m also assuming it’s an original Polaris car, easily verified by BMW Archives (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com).

Yes, the tired engine compartment does not match the perky exterior, but we’ve all seen worse. Hell...many of us have owned worse...

First photo: my 2762757 as purchased.  Second photo: my 2762757 after minor “refreshing”.

If you’re interested, you should be examining all the usual rust-prone areas for rust or prior repairs. Has the underside been undercoated post-factory — it looks pretty dark down there for a Polaris car? Obviously, the lower portion of the nosepiece is afflicted with some rust. Shock towers look fine. But what do the floors, rockers, and frame rails really look like? Pull out the bottom cushion of the rear seat and look at the floor carefully, especially around the rear subframe mounts.

$45K car, as is? Not by my yardstick, but every time a tii is auctioned, my yardstick proves to be....antiquated.

If this is a low-rust 1972 tii, that looks entirely respectable inside and out, it will sell for more than most of us find “reasonable”.... ?

Regards,

Steve
