The owner of the turbo is quite a character.  Known locally as Turbo Max, he has turbocharged every car he has owned, so I'm told.  I gave him a damaged S14 exhaust manifold years ago to use on a turbo M3 motor he was building to stick in an 02.  Don't know where that project went.

It was great to see Andy's Ti again and for a lot of people, including 02 owners, to see one in the flesh for the first time.  Another 2002 that drew a lot of attention was a colorado 1970 that was picked up new at the factory and is still being driven by the original owner 45 years later.

This has turned into the best attended event of the year for the local chapter with a wide range of ages, both cars and people.  And Toby, don't feel alone.  I think many people missed this and I'm not sure why except that most members associate it with June so a May 31 date might have thrown them off.  There were three E9s there.  Mine, Adam's beautiful turkis from BC and a highly modified CSL.

Good to see you again, your e9 is beautiful.  This really is a great event, it shows off the diversity of the BMW crowd.

Anyone know what wheels are on the touring?  14x6 I believe.  They look great.

Those are NK wheels on the touring.  That is Riley's car; those NK wheels used to be on the blue car in that photo (also his car).

I always do it right the second time.

Like Stu said, the wheels are from an 1800Ti/SA originally, and I swapped them from my blue 02 to the touring recently. They are indeed 14x6!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
