Just got this tii from a friend in SD.

1973 2002tii

1. Rebuilt engine from Chris at LaJolla independent

2. Suspension upgrades and well sorted.

3. Last owner had the car for 9 years as a daily.

4. Interior and paint needed. Plus all the little shit!

Can someone please confirm this is a 73 tii

Not a 72, thanks

"...the original color is Taiga which will be the color in a few years." Fixed that for you. :-)

Welcome to the club! I have a '73 tii which is waiting to go back to her original taiga green as well.

Mine is red right now but the original color is Taiga which might be the color in a few years.
Thanks for the response Jerry.

Vin # 2763058

Send the VIN to andreas.harz@partner.bmwgroup.com. You will get build date, importer which is probably Hoffman & original color.

It's a '73.  1973 tii VINs begin at 2762630.  If you check the factory parts book for parts that are unique to the '73s (heavy front and rear bumper brackets, pointy front bumper guards etc) you'll see that they are fitted to tii's beginning with VIN 2762630.  That very car, incidentally is here in Beavercreek undergoing a very slow restoration.  It was VERY rusty!

PS, only the early '72 tii's had plastic intake runners--the factory switched to aluminum ones fairly early in the '72 production run, as the plastic ones cracked and leaked.

As far as the end of the plastic runners, the research I have says they abandoned them midyear in 72, about VIN # 2761944.  I own "The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2761940 was manufactured on June 2nd, 1972 and delivered on June 6th, 1972" with black plastic runners.  I believe that they also had a short run of plastic runners again a few months after the aluminum ones were first introduced...not sure why or what VINs were included...maybe the experts will chime in.

Congrats on your purchase of a 73 tii.  The spacing of the rear bumper is like the typical 73's, but you do not have the (2) rear reflectors.

My 72tii engine is 2762332 that had aluminum runners and 121 cylinder head.  There are (2) bolts that are threaded into the head where the earlier long studs were used to secure the intake plenum.
