Jim,

first of all I`d like to agree to the comments posted before: Your car definitely looks great!!!

Then I´m sorry that I didn´t make it to write this post earlier. Don´t have that much spare time at the moment and that one single day I had a short look on the FAQ website after the easter days the recent update seemed to not be complete and I couldn´t see any pictures, links were not working and so I logged out again after a minute or so.

I´d like to apologize for my wrongly drilled bracket. We´re all human and so we make mistakes - seems like I made one also when I drilled your bracket. Very sorry for that.

Thumbs up for your first test drive on the road!

Best regards, Lars.

Visited the DMV for tags and registration Friday afternoon.  Installed both front and rear tags (front one using the stock "spreader" bracket)

For the rear, I was going to use my used European aluminum mount but decided it didn't look right so I drilled (2) holes in the panel and reinstalled the (2) chrome plugs from the

original 69 tail panel.

To help prevent rubbing the aluminum plate against the body, I cut up an old side marker gasket for the bolts and glued an old tag lamp

gasket to the back of the plate.

Installed a VDO oil pressure gauge in the center console and partially wired it to power and ground.  Still have to install the adaptor block and sending unit.

Tackled the old nasty trunk boards today by removing the original vinyl (tons of staples), cleaned up the wood boards then added new vinyl I found today at Hancock Fabrics.  I was hoping to find a lighter shade of gray but Hancock is going out of business so everything was 25-30% off.  I purchased 2.5 SQ yards of a Gull Grey marine vinyl @ $ 14.99/SQ yard.  I will add the (3) forward pieces tomorrow.

I used carpet adhesive on the edges and 1/4" staples in a very old Arrow brand staple gun my father gave to me.

Finished up the vinyl for the trunk this morning.  Not show quality since the fuel pump wiring and new fuel line interfere with the right side piece.  I thought both pieces were identical but after I cut the left one and flipped it over for comparing the right side, the right was longer by a few inches (using the old glue remnants as a guide).  I still haven't secured the RS board to the center partition.

Borrowed some ramps from Marshall today and torqued the front and rear suspension pieces.  Didn't realize how difficult it is to torque large hardware with only a few inches of room below the car.

My assortment of tools used on the front end (including the tie rods, ball joints, center track rod, radius arms, control arms and sway bar end links).

While under the front, I checked the exhaust manifold nuts and they needed tightening.

Rear trailing arm bolts were torqued while up on the ramps. The outer bolt head/nut is tough to access.  Doing this on a lift would be ideal.

Checked the alternator situation since my dash cluster charge light isn't working.  Car not running battery voltage is about  12.6 Volts.

Here it is while running at about 1500 rpm.

Took the car for a short drive around the neighborhood then tried more carb tuning.  Needs more love.

For some strange reason, the upper section of both footwells are lacking in the carpet reach up to the cardboard panels. Carpet came from a 74tii so I wonder if there is another difference.

E-brake cables need to be tightened. Front seats feel like really old seats even after I've messed with them twice.

Confirmed hotel reservations for Vintage in Asheville next month.  Really looking forward to going to this new location.

Visited Pep Boys yesterday hoping to find some wide "chrome" adhesive tape for doing the driver's side door panel aluminum trim.  They only had 1/4" wide tape.

Maybe Marc Caden will have some leftover material (mylar)...

I have four packages of this (about 6"x11" each).  Would that work for you?

The Mylar from Aardvarc looks the part but after 2 weeks wants to flatten out and not stick to the tight radius of the plastic trim. I bought roll of aluminum tape for $8 at Lowe's but didn't use it because even polishing it with my multi metal polish didn't get it shiny enough. I found pressure adhesive stainless steel tape but it has writing on it.

Working on the carb sync. Ed.  Glad I have the wideband gauge to see what happens each time I make a change.

Timing is about 30 degrees BTDC but I have trouble keeping the timing gun cables off the hot exhaust manifold.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
