  1. Smog pump. Later models had a belt driven smog pump mounted on the driver side front of engine.
  2. I only trust the cam shaft line (not the crank pulley) for TDC. Looks like you are at TDC. Insert the distribution and then where ever the rotor is point to put the #1 spark plug lead on the point. Once you are certain you have TDC and the distributor rotor pointing towards #1 spark plug wire, don't be afraid to turn the distributor 15 degrees left and right if she isn't starting, to see if things get better or worse. Also remember the spark plugs wires do NOT go 1234 on the distributor, they need to follow the firing order printed on the valve cover.
  3. ^Toga, a quick hack for CSV is to wire it off the starter, so that when you are cranking the CSV sprays fuel. Build a quick wiring harness from the CSV with one wiring going to the spade connector at the top of the starter motor and the other wiring going to a ground. This will spray fuel during cranking and works great!
  4. My radiator was cleaned, tested, couple pin holes soldered and repaired for $90 in Houston
  5. This is what I'm using on my 72tii
  6. The blue coil if fine for a 123, lower performance, but fine. That blue wire is it properly grounded with a ring terminal or is it just "Squished" under the fender bolt?
  7. 100% chance your rewiring is bad. A bad coil wouldn't stop the 123 from turning on. Find the power wire to the coil and start there. The power wire to the coil also powers the 123. Make sure you are getting power to the coil with the key in the run position. Give us pictures of your coil wiring.
  8. I have the electric AC kit and it seems very nice but in the end i did not use it. It requires the electric AC compressor be mounted level and i didn't have a good place to put it in my car. Perhaps if i had not cut out my battery tray, i would have mounted it on the battery tray but i really had no space to put it in the end. Anybody want a deal on an electric AC system, hit me up. Steven
  9. Sunday brunch with BMW CCA @BMW West with the guys.
  10. Alternator probably bad and it might have taken the battery with it. Put a charger on the battery over night and see if it will start without a jump. If it does, monitor the battery voltage over 10 minutes. If it just drops and drops, the alternator is not topping the battery up and its running on the battery alone. If thats the case, pull the alternator and send it for rebuilding at a local alternator shop. You cant buy tii alternators, your choices are either get it rebuilt locally or buy a $400 rebuilt and upgraded one off Ebay. If after charging the battery all night, the battery is still weak and wont really start the car, the battery has died as well.
  11. ^ Good question. Do you have the metal sandwhich plate for the short neck? Your car wants to use the short rubber neck. The only good options in your situation are changing tanks or cutting a metal tube extension for the gas tank and having it welded on.
  12. Ive tried multiple different brand of brackets and still end up coming back to Hobie's bracket. Hopefully someone will take over production!
  13. Just resell the tank you have a buy a new tank.
  14. If your gas filler bolts in, then you need a gas tank with a long neck and the short rubber middle section
  15. your car should already have a metal fuel line running along the drive side frame rail. That is the supply line. A plastic line runs through the interior of the car and that is the return line. You use 8mm ID fuel hose for the engine side fuel connections. There is a special 12mm id rubber hose that goes from the tank to the fuel pump
  16. ^Agreed. Im sure the results will be nice, just long wait.
  17. Still waiting. They say in the next month or two but I heard that a year ago also. Steven

  19. Good question, but the new mount removed all the vibration and i didn't change the transmission height.
  20. So i have a Metric Mechanic 240 5 speed with their mount. Their mount sucks. It basically hard bolts to the case of the 240 and transmits so much vibration into the cabin. The 240 5 speed dont work with traditional 5 speed transmission mounts because it doesnt have the ear to take a E21 rubber mount. So yesterday i worked on designing a new tranny mount, cantilever syle that uses a E21 rubber mount. Test drove it today and its 100x better than before. Pretty happy.
  21. For years i thought my trunk seal was leaking because when ever i washed my car, a little water would enter the trunk. Turned out to be the tail lights. I loosened the lights, put a strip of foam insulation around the perimeter and retightened the tail lights. Have never had another drop enter the trunk.
