Per Mr. IE, it doesn't sound like fuel starvation: if the float bowls are full (after idling for a minute), it should rev past 5000 at least for a few seconds. The rotor was a good suspect, but out of the picture now. Are you sure it is advancing fully? What I find curious is the 5000 rpm wall. Seems too high for main jet issue.
On plug wires, I chased a misfire for weeks before deciding to replace what looked like perfectly good new-ish wires. New Bosch wires solved that problem. I seem to recall using the timing light to look at the firing pattern which showed the miss created by two of the carbon core wires. Adjusting max timing to IE recommendation also helped.
