  3. excellent. got a part number? i have never seen this cable, so i dunno length, ends, etc. http://www.redlineweber.com/html/linkage_sets/UNIVERSAL_CABLE_KIT.htm
  4. if you have the weber universal linkage kit, and you need the cable(99006103) good luck. the weber distributor is out, and est 2 weeks for more. of course, like most stuff, it was supposed to be here last week tuesday. we have been waiting for a cable for a set going out of country for a while now.
  5. well, if #8 is what you want, there is the part number. the bad news is that it is no longer available new. http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=41_1170&hg=41&fg=40&hl=10
  6. there is another question here, one that we have encountered more than a few times. is it the correct gasket? bmw has been known to put the wrong gasket in the package with the correct number. you should take the gasket and fit it on the glass to be sure. otherwise, it will not be fun when you try to install it. we have encountered several mistakes in packaging lately that just didnt exist when i started doing this many years ago.
  7. he is also dying of cancer. put that in your song and stick it
  8. screw the ls1, drop an LS7 into it, or this: http://www.c5racer.com/catalog/corvette-c5-c6-z06-zr1/engine-performance/blocks-strokers/kaytech-kat-a4740-air-attack-ls7-sc-7.0l-427in-engine.html?m1track=googlebase&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=Google+Base&utm_campaign=export_feed#googlebase or this: this car now lives in marfa, texas. alongside a 78 320i that dinan dropped an e23 745 engine in. 89 e30 m3 2.5 stroker, coil overs, cage, 91 318is m62(my favorite), 69 2002 original owner, restored body, built engine, 85 mercedes 190e 16v(he had a lapse), amongst others. the owner blames me for getting him involved with bmw's. yup, still married to his high school sweetheart, 2 kids
  9. #20? http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1003&mospid=47312&btnr=11_0519&hg=11&fg=30&hl=23
  10. bracket-64 51 1 356 692 LOOONG time nla blower speed knob-64 51 1 355 641 also nla temp knob-64 51 1 355 643 still available, maybe. 18.60 here. it also fits E3/9 if you have the white behelf's catalogs, the part numbers are in there
  11. i did that a long time ago. back when we were still in hawaii, no a/c car, side drafts and cam. triple cored radiator, took off the eng fan and only used an electric pusher. it dont work worth a crap. even with 71 deg stat, temps were well above midway. put the eng fan back on, temps dropped back to below mid way. if your ambient temps get above 85, you need the eng fan, or something pulling the air thru the radiator
  12. dunno what the book says. all the ones i ever installed were kinda tight, no shims needed. but that was always with new sprockets/chain. when the motor is first started, you can hear it, and it breaks in. if you reuse like the crank sprocket, there might be some slack. if you reuse both sprockets, the pump will have to be shimmed.
  13. you need #16, sprocket. also, 7, this is critical, because it spaces the sprocket correctly. 18 is the nut, which is fine thread, and also is the jam nut for the rear shocks. i would put a new chain on, too, and get a couple of shims. http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=11_2582&hg=11&fg=30&hl=58 make sure you check your oil pressure relief valve. if you put it in upside down, you will blow out the seal on the filter, or the filter itself. the oil tube is the same, it will fit no problemo
  14. couple things to consider here. first off, i would get the new style valve guides. however, then you gotta get the new style valve stem seals. the old style seals are crap, and will not last long. with that in mind, i always recommend getting the e30 318i head set, because it will come with the much nicer 1 pc exh manifold gasket with heat shield. http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1374&mospid=47315&btnr=11_1062&hg=11&fg=50&hl=3 the only thing missing will be the carb base gasket, but if you remove the intake with the carb still attached, no problemo. it will also have the new style valve stem seals in it. pn 11 12 1 734 142 for the head set. there are no more full engine gasket sets available, there might be some very old stock on full sets, but they will have the old style valve stem seals. this head gasket set would sell for about 82.00 here in the us. the lower end set, 11 11 1 734 114, should have the new design rear crank seal in it(11 14 2 249 533). this seal has no tension spring in it, and relocates the seal lip to a different part of the crank, not the worn part. it is an improvement over the old(1 706 785) seal. with it riding on a new surface, you should not have any rear main seal leaks for a very long time. another consideration is freight. we have started using the us postal service for a lot of the overseas shipping, if the package meets size requirements, we find that freight cost is easily half that of ups. there are different customs requirements, so be prepared. lastly, dont forget to attach the front upper timing cover to the head when you get it cut
  15. try to save as many as those clips that you can, or leave them on there. the replacement ones are too small, and the moulding will move around. make sure you got really good t bolts, and there was a post just a few days back about someone using a couple t bolts to hold that sucker on. and dont shoot the messenger, bmw is the only place that makes the half-ass new clips.
  16. nope. stock is 215mm. see #2 and 3, up to 74 stock clutch is 228mm, 74 and later is 215mm http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2215&mospid=47140&btnr=21_0142&hg=21&fg=05
  17. we have 2 cars we have owned for more than 10 years. both cars are zaino. one car is black. it gets sprinklered on all the time, and beaucoup water spots. if i wipe it will a damp rag, the spots are gone. i also use zaino z6 to wipe instead of a damp rag, and no spots. so here in north texas, zaino has protected the best of anything i have ever used. i think the main reason is because zaino can be layered, and i polish the cars a lot.
  18. zaino http://www.zainostore.com/ excellent stuff. the initial prep is some work. you need to remove what is on there, then put on a starter, then the polish. but after that is done, all you need is to keep applying the polish. it goes on and comes off really easy, and it can be done in bright sunlite. also, it can be layered, and each layer makes it shine deeper and deeper. greatest stuff i have ever used to protect, stuff like bird droppings, water spots, road tars, all come off easily, but you gotta make sure you have a really good base.
  19. bob and jan have moved to a retirement community. bob has a bit of a problem with his sight, so he doesnt read a lot. or email like he used to. looking at the ad brought back a lot of memories. i used to work for mike perkins, who passed away a couple of years ago. mike was one of the finest bmw techs i have ever known. bob and mike had a very close relationship, and bob supplied mike with just about every bmw special tool made. i heard mike had prepped an M3 for some minor movie star, and the car was kicking butt at texas world speedway, and got some serious attention as to who did the car. it was very fast. also, bob's car dont have a turbo oil cooler, bob sold it to me. it was the first time i ever met him. he had brought it back from germany, but decided to go with an indy style cooler, and when i saw it, he had mounted it behind the driver side headlite. bob was always very generous, and i remember when i brought back the alpina intake from austin and showed it to bob. he immediately offered me more money than what i had paid, which was 400 bucks. i could tell he really wanted it, and since i owed him some favors, i sold it to him for what i had in it. i wonder what happened to those turbo wheels? i think that car is easily worth 25k, and those miles are correct.
  20. bob murphy's car is NOT an a4s. it is a normal tii, bought new by bob. he basically started getting everything for a tii turbo for his car. the alpina multiple butterfly system i sold to him, way back when. i got the system from randy arnold, who was supposedly an alpina dealer when he lived in austin. bob used to bring back stuff for his car on his many trips overseas. i remember he got the last 5 turbo alloy wheels in europe. he carried a new lsd rear diff with him on the airplane in a flight bag, long before we were all searched. bob bought the remaining a4s air filter elements from me when i worked at dallas european. update: i just got off the phone with bob, he says if anyone would like to call and ask him about this car, feel free. 281 596 9892.
  21. pete mchenry did one with 6 motorcycle carbs. but he said it took a lotta leg to open them up
  22. see #11? you need 2 of them: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=23_0774&hg=23&fg=15 you might want to change #19, also. and you will probably need 2 of #19 here, too: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=23_0775&hg=23&fg=15 and i hope you removed that metal band around the guibo
  23. ok, my bad. if you mean the part that is on the lower part of the door opening, that protects the metal, then #9 http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=41_1161&hg=41&fg=40&hl=57 the other part is what goes around the door entrance, on the seam.
