  1. i remember i first went to a lightened one. iirc, it was about 6 lbs lighter, and i couldnt tell any difference. so i was skeptical. then after the findanza was installed, i did a couple redline runs, and i was like, HOLY COW!!! i couldnt believe it was just the flywheel, but as time went on, i knew it was. amazing difference. you will grin a LOT.
  2. dunno about that particular brand, but i had a fidanza on the galant. the difference was astounding. i think the normal price was around 450 at that time, and i found a new on on ebay for like 70 bucks. had i known the improvement was that dramatic, i would have gladly paid the 450
  3. well, i hope the beer is primo. but for me, laulau and poki, and some pickled maui onion. broke da mouth
  4. ooooo... http://www.m2bmw.com/m6_1602.htm also, the mad greek, andy kritikos did an m30 way back when. i heard the car kicked ass and took names in autocross. dunno what brakes were used. http://www.akgmotorsport.com/ one of my friends has his e30 with m62. THAT car is scary fast. way long time ago, before internet, there was a seattle car with a 3.0 in it. iirc, the article was in the old "whispering bomb" aca club newsletter
  5. i think marelli was lucas' brother. the m1 had a marelli ign control unit. they are garbage
  6. i hope you dont mean me. cause i dont know squat about mercedes. and i wouldnt know a lusto if it bit me
  7. what did you order? if it dont fit in a 12" x 12" x 12" box, then it goes dimensional. length+width+height. ever see the freight for a hood? if you order it online, it will probably price it out at like 40 bucks freight. actual is more like 300. and that's just the freight. then someone's gotta pack it up. so that means a box. ever see a box the exact same size as the part? ever try to MAKE a box? we ship windshields. i have NEVER seen one go out for less than 100 bucks. the system will charge like 35 bucks. aint NO way that and packing them up is the pits. the bigger items take WAY more care and handling. handling is like shop supplies. ever notice on your repair ticket there is shop supplies? how come no one bitches about that? one of my favorites is the drip rail for e46. when i was at the dealer, these suckers came in boxes that were like 7 ft long, 2 ft wide, and about 4 in. they weighed about 2 lb, max, but cost like 100 bucks to ship. a 2002 drip rail is about the same. handling charge is put in there to try to even out the total. handling on a quarter panel is gonna be way more than a bushing, so it is spread out over the entire program. and usps dont take everything, neither does ups. and lastly, if it comes to you broke, then it dont matter how cheap freight was.
  8. there are a few places that rebuild driveshafts. the good ones rebalance them, so you should be good to go. some of the places dont use bmw u joints, but as long as it has been balanced, it is ok. if it wasnt balanced, you would know
  9. 18 10 7 523 805. 8mm copper coated nut, exhaust. this nut is really trick. it is way heftier than the normal exh nut, plus it has a shoulder on it, so you dont need a washer. but the best thing about this nut is that it has an alloy helicoil. they work really well. on my galant turbo, the 4g63t has a problem with the exh studs breaking. the nut backs off, and the vibration will break the stud. i switched to these nuts, and never had a problem since. they come stock on the m62 v8. the extra cost is worth it
  10. if you are going to sidedrafts, the best way is to learn yourself. most places will get the carbs in the ballpark, but to really get them tuned in, you will have to do a lot. i would think that a wideband would help, there was no such thing when i was doing it. every car is different, and every situation is different. i kept a notebook, and each week i would make a jet change, and log it. since i always drove the same route to work, i could tell when a change did good or bad. one of the most complicated parts is the emulsion tubes. you can get several to work, but some work better than others. when set up right, the sidedrafts work really well. i always like the 45's over the 40's, main reason was the aux venturis. the 45's would take a 5.0, but the 40's the max was 4.5. and there is a difference
  11. for one, those plastic clips dont fit worth a crap. make sure the t-bolts are on there really good.
  12. i still remember the video of harold at gateway tech. pete mchenry filmed harold sucking the doors off a firehawk m3 at road atlanta. then there was harold and billy revis(2002/s14) at roebling. they were invited there by the porsche club. they lapped the pack, got black flagged off the track, and were invited by the porsche club to never come back.
  13. Bavarian Motor Sports Ltd 320 Sharon Industrial Way, Suwanee, GA 30024-2252 (770) 932-1225 ‎ harold audauer. awesome guy. ask about his infamous full race bavaria, which has humbled many. harold used to be a terror at road atlanta.
  14. http://www.bavarianspecialties.com/home.shtml mike yaskin. used to have an alpina a4s multiple butterfly intake CHAINED to his toolbox.
  15. both brands are oem for bmw. for the 2002, it was always mahle(used to be called purolator, but had copyright problems in the usa). on some of the air filter boxes, you can see purolator stamped or cast on there. both are quality filters
  16. i know bill ballon. but dont tell him, cause he will charge you more. http://www.billballonauto.com/ paul wegweiser is somewhere north of ballon. he posts here, but i think he hates me, too
  17. i'm sorry but i don't have a clue who you are, and it shouldn't matter who i am...but so you know, i'm a nobody...just esty, owner of 7 o2's and other BMWs, who tried many years ago to buy from max but gave up for the same reasons stated herein why wouldn't you want to answer the questions asked publicly...i'm sure based on the responses to this and the many others threads like it that a lot of folks would like to know right there in my signature. and in my post. dunno why your calls werent returned, since i have no idea when you called, who you called, or why. order not being shipped, again, i have no idea what/when. and the contact us deal, i have no idea what is wrong with that, and i have no idea how to fix it. i get all my emails at classicbmwparts@gmail.com. anyone wants me to post an answer to a problem on this forum, go for it. and i dont have all the answers
  18. why dont you email me and identify yourself, and i will see what happened. as far as the "contact us" on the website, i have no idea on that, max will have to address that. i always get emails at the gmail.com address. you know who i am, i have no idea who you are
  19. well, i have been here for a little over a year. and there have been problems, and there will continue to have problems. i'm not gonna say where the biggest problems are coming from, but some are just not solvable. that being said, i would invite anyone who is having a problem to either email me direct, classicbmwparts@gmail.com, attn ken. or call in on the 800 number and ask for me. there are some on this forum that i have dealt with already. that being said, here is one problem that will never go away: orders. many think that bmw stocks every part for every car in every warehouse. that is impossible. there is a network of 6 major parts warehouses across the nation. these are half million sq/ft. additionally, there is a network of smaller warehouses in large metro areas. the dealers in the large metro areas get multiple deliveries a day. so, a local dealer just aint gonna stock a lot of parts, because they can get them, in some cases in a couple hours. in our case, we are not in a large metro area, so it takes us 2 days. so, in a BEST case scenario, here is what happens. the parts order comes in on the web, we examine them and look for unusual things, one good example is freight. if someone orders a windshield, the freight is gonna be a lot more than what the program charges. so we hold the order, call the customer, and let them know it is gonna cost a lot more. ok, so that day the parts are ordered. the main whse gets the order, and packs it and ships it the next day. the day after that, we get the parts. so it takes us 2 days. bmw is about to improve this, where we will get parts the next day, but for now it is 2 days. unless the part is actually in stock, which is rare, a next day or a second day order just aint gonna happen. now, on the other end, is a worse case scenario. the order comes in. our main warehouse is out of stock. so it defaults to the next main whse, which is in california, about 4 days away. if it aint there, then mississippi, then jacksonville. if there are none in the us, and this happens a LOT. remember the car is 30+years old. then the part is backordered to germany. this then falls into several categories. 1. in stock. yippee. takes about 10 BUSINESS days to get to us 2. out of stock, backorder, no release date 3. out of stock, backorder, with release date of xxxxxx 4. no longer available 5. blocked-this is relatively new. non usa or grey mkt car right now, the left side door seal is on backorder, release date is 4/15. which WAS 3/15. which was 2/15, yada, yada, originally release date was 12/15/2010. bmw can and does change their mind whenever. customers get mad at us for no door seal, but there is nothing we can do. if the part is on backorder, no release date, we rarely get a date. generally, the way we find out is we get a shipping notice, the parts have shipped. doh. so if you think that when you order a part, some guy goes out to the bin, where it is stocked full of this part, packs it, and sends it that day, you are dreaming. it is WAY more complicated. and to keep things simple, i have left out a LOT more variables that for the most part, we just dont know until it happens. but as i stated before, i invite anyone with a problem to call/email me personally. you may not like what i have to tell you, but it will be the truth
  20. if there is a difference, it is insignificant. the e21 head is a full hemispherical, the pistons are still flat tops. so there might be a slight difference in compression. i am told the head flows better than the earlier 121/e12. the 76 had a 3.91 rear diff, but also different emission controls than the 75 and before. if you examine the hi compression piston for the e21 head, the pop top is kinda like a half moon, vs the baby grand piano for the e12
  21. 76 2002 had e21 head. if it is 320i head, there is no hole for fuel pump rod. other than that, it is the same head for the 2.0 320i
  22. those pics/diagram is the early shift assembly. if it is original, it will have the later assembly. however, the little blocks that go on the back of the trans that the sheet metal is connected to(25 11 1 208 580) are the same, and the allen bolts that hold them in(07 11 9 919 669)also are the same. and the allen bolt backing out/breaking probably is the problem. while you are in there, it is a good idea to check other wear parts, the joint that connects the selector rod to the bottom of the shift lever(25 11 7 503 525), and the bottom of the shift lever, 25 11 1 220 213. both of those parts have a bushing that wears slightly over time, and will it dont look like much movement, new parts really firms up the shifting. i would also swap out the trans mount to a 320i one, you will have to hog out the trans mt bracket, and use a larger nut, but it supports the back of the trans way better.
