  1. #4. unique to the turbo, and long gone nla http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2291&mospid=47132&btnr=23_0771&hg=23&fg=15&hl=24
  2. you cant go wrong with the stock sachs clutch. they last forever
  3. http://2002tii.org/kb/tag/wiring-diagram all tii owners should be a member and have this site bookmarked. bob murphy got the original wiring diagrams from bmwna. the white books are also here. best tii site out there
  4. some of the old timers will remember phil dermer, who was the first alpina dealer in the us. dermer started out somewhere in mass, and had a deal where he was going to build a bunch of performance 2002's. he took a lot of deposits, then absconded with the money. dermer made a turbo kit for early 2002. it was crude, and i had one. used the old solex 1 barrel, it was a draw thru. for boost control, it had an impco(?) spring loaded valve, and excess boost, which was AFTER the carb, so it was fuel laden, was piped back into the carb. old rajay turbo, hung from the right front of the engine. i remember i could bury the speedo, and i think that was at 5 lbs boost, no intercooler. i did have a water injection system, tho. i thought it ran pretty good, but it was a really long time ago. it all bolted on to a stock motor. then there was a guy in california, doug fraser. his kit had a cast manifold, dermer's was a welded up concoction. dfre was the company, and a short time after fraser became kinda established, i think he was killed in an auto accident. his kit was a blow thru, and used a weber 2 bbl. i think it was on a 73 i had, i dont quite remember the year. again, no intercooler, and the same type of bov, no wastegate. this system had a problem of at about 6 lbs boost, it would pressurize the float chamber, and blow the fuel back. again, stock motor, just a bolt on. however, the right side idler arm bracket had to be "modified" because the turbo hung down. part of the tube had to be removed, and the bushing had to be shortened. of course, the crossmember had to be removed for this. at wot, the engine would torque so that the turbo would then hit the top part of the idler arm bushing, and the heat from the turbo greatly shortened the life of the bushing. as we all know, those suckers are not fun to change. as i remember on both systems, 5 lbs boost really woke up the engine. it was like second gear felt like first, third like second, yada, yada. on the dfre car, i also had a 320i 5 spd, and one of the last 40% lsd i got out of germany. i remember that lsd was only 360 bucks, the mark was like 8 to a dollar. the good ole days. but no fuel control took it's toll. the engine lost a wrist pin clip, and one cylinder was scored from the pin. the engine was trashed. it sure was fun, tho. the problem with turbos is kinda like drugs. you get addicted, and then you keep searching for "just a bit more power".
  5. dunno about autohaus, but worldpac dont show that one no more
  6. I know the difference between OE and OEM and that pump pictured came direct from BMW. then the third problem comes in. bmw mobile traditions. having already gone thru this, when mobile traditions, or bmw, remakes a part, sometimes they are lackadaisical about details. iow, they dont give a shit. that is why there are problems with stuff like tii fuel lines, m1 clutch slave, 2002 rocker panel clips, early rear bumper pieces, and just lately, 2002 door stops, to name a few. there are more and more mistakes on etk. i know of a couple parts managers who still keep the old fiche and books around for reference. you can complain, but it dont do no good. and for us, we find out about it the hard way, a mad customer.
  7. easy explanation. but one has to go back to the white books to see PARTIALLY why, and then have insight on what bmw AND the direct importers are doing. first, the white books. we all know there were 3 pumps for the carb engines. the early one that was rebuildable, then the brass top one, up to 74, and then from 74 on. if you dont believe me, check the white books, i always do. so we are looking at the non rebuildable ones. for up to, but not including usa 74 my, the pn is 13 31 1 265 193. still available from bmw. then, from 74 my on, 13 31 1 265 192. also still available. however, checking bmw etk, 8/2011, there is a 3rd pump, 13 31 1 261 622, which etk says fits 9/75-7/76. there is no reference to that part number in the white books. further checking with bmwna, the 193 and 622 both have stock in germany, ONLY the 192 has stock in the us. which generally means the 192 number is still popular. i suspect the difference in the 193 and the 192 is how the inlet/outlet is clocked, but i dont quite remember. i have NO idea how bmw came up with the 622, but it ONLY fits usa cars. the pump rod is correct for all 3 pumps, since the early one is nla. now we go to the direct importers. since only 2 of them carry this pump, and both carry the same one, i suspect this pump actually is for a vw, but the supplier says it can be used for bmw. suppliers dont know everything. and it is easier to carry 1 part that fits a bunch of cars, instead of the exact part. lastly, do NOT confuse OE with OEM. these 2 acronyms are widely misused and generally misunderstood in the parts business. this pump is oem, but it is NOT oe.
  8. once you use the 805 nut, you will never use anything else
  9. for all you people thinking about just getting #1 line. think again. the last response i got from bmw mobile traditions is that as stock runs out on the rest of the lines, they will ALL be replaced by the straight black ones. and the prices will more than double. so, even if you get just #1, you should get the rest NOW, while bmw still has stock on 2, 3, and 4, and the price is low. but dont be surprised if you get the "updated" pos black ones.
  10. no, not even close. it would be in the 11 group, but sub group would be 62. then the actual part number would be 7 digits. for example, 1 315 872 is the part nr for exh manifold, E30 M3 evo3. complete part nr would be 11 62 1 315 872. a tii exh manifold would be 11 62 1 265 449. that number on the manifold is way different
  11. there is a REALLY good shop in rock hill. bavarian auto service, bob shields, owner. it is worth the trip just to see his E30/M62 kick ass street legal track car. bob is a long time racer, and knows 2002's.
  12. take the wheels to a good tire shop, and see if you can watch them balance the tires. most good shops have a wheel balancer. when i was in the shop, we used to get a LOT of wheels in, and they would be out of round. even brand new. i think the only brand we never had a problem with was bbs/mahle. the guy that did our balancing used to cut the weights down, so he could get smaller increments, and the wheels would balance out way better than tire shops. your better brand of tires will come with marks on the sidewalls for the high point in the rim, and a valve stem mark. if the high point cant be found, then the tire is lined up with the valve stem mark. tire shops will tell you these marks are no longer important, but bmw's, especially the older ones, seem to be more sensitive to tire balance/out of round.
  13. where/when in lewisville? i might come. did anyone get the epc to run on their computer?
  14. pete mchenry did the first of these, m20 in a 2002. he used to sell a kit to do this. he has since passed away, but look for articles in the roundel about this. he used to go out friday nites and look for kids in mustangs, and he would suck the doors off them. he also planted an s52 into his 95 318ti with supercharger. now THAT was scary. one of my friends in austin did the m20 eta into his 2002 with the m20 5 spd, but he had to change out the rear diff, too. with the stock diff, first gear was done at about 15 mph. it has been done quite a few times
  15. much stouter than the gooey rubber, and much better fitting than the urethane, and also better vibration protection than the urethane, are the teflon bushings that shops called the tii bushings. 12 31 1 268 447/449. #12 and #9 below: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=3772&mospid=47156&btnr=12_0722&hg=12&fg=22&hl=12 these are supplied by bosch. i used to sell them by the hundreds back in the day. shops hate the urethane because they dont fit well.
  16. 61 31 1 368 786. very common, lots of online suppliers have this switch see #9: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2583&mospid=47141&btnr=34_0812&hg=34&fg=25&hl=25
  17. this is dave nikolas's old car. i dont think he got 750whp, but it was a hoss. it was fueled by a mercedes v8 fuel distributor, 2 injectors per cylinder. in this add, it is incorrectly advertised, and it was sold under false pretenses by the person that bought it from dave. it started out as a 1970 2002. very fast car http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/bmw/1053033333/1053033333pp.htm and dave is still looking for it, wherever it went. if anyone knows, call nikolas motorsport and tell him
  18. swap the carbs. if it goes to 4, vi-ola!
  19. if the hose is real long, like 3 ft, then it would be an oil cooler line, going from the oil filter head to the heat exchanger. the other end would be a fitting with a right angle bend
  20. this is why i like the e30 m10 exh gasket with heat shield. i always try to sell this with any head gasket set, or if someone is removing the exh manifold. #2 http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1374&mospid=47315&btnr=11_1062&hg=11&fg=50&hl=3 if you have the late style guides, and are buying a head set, just get the 318i set, and you will have almost everything you need, plus this gasket. the only other gaskets that are not in the 318 head set is the carb base gasket and the fuel pump gasket
  21. there is ONLY 1 late model 1 pc dash, euro OR usa. 51 45 1 828 074: http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=51451828074&showus=on&showeur=on touring, turbo, tii, all the same now. bmw mobile traditions has been supplying this dash for quite some time now. and i too, wish they were a bit more receptive to criticism.
  22. on the tii, isnt it part of the booster? there aint no part number for the tii, i even looked in the white books http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2233&mospid=47141&btnr=34_0813&hg=34&fg=25&hl=9
