  1. To be honest, I didn’t realize jalopnik still existed and even more surprised someone still reads it. That’s a remark on Jalopnik, not your story… which is fantastic. Great read. I’m with others here in saying I hope you start a build blog here for us to follow!
  2. In reality, outside of the mechanical injection and the front brake setup (well, and a slightly larger rear wheel cylinder)…. there was no functional difference between a 2002 and a 2002tii. That is to say, there is no specific 2002tii swaybar size. The size varied between models/years in no formal documented format I’ve come across…. this includes reaching out to an internal contact at BMW Classic and scouring old microfiche’s that never got uploaded to ETK (which serves as the basis for the diagrams you’re seeing on realoem.com). All 2002/2002tii ‘s came with a front and rear bar*. As for what size you need, the only definitive answer is to find out for yourself by going out to your car and throwing a 14mm/15mm/16mm open ended wrench over the bars and seeing which ones fits. *im not including early early production where no rear bar was used.
  3. No, not off the shelf. Bruce Carr did it using a stock early bumper via nip/tuck/weld/grind/chrome. looked great. If you google his name along with bmw 2002, you’ll see pictures. The car sold on BAT within the last year.
  4. "that's about it" Uhm.... little heavy on the modesty! That's a metric carp ton of work. Very cool to see the "informed DIY" paint/body experience.
  5. Fantastic progress people .... I haven't touched the car in nearly 14 weeks, school is getting intense, can't wait for winter break. Lined up a dozen or more differential rebuilds to do at that time as well (seeing Le again will also be bittersweet, as I'm sure he'll be sure to rub in how awesome Texas is, lol). ... so seeing everyone's work is both cathartic and torturous. @slowbert Love the wiring, that fabbed cut-off switch bracket looks great. On the bright side, AndrewIE did me a huge solid on picking up the car and dropping it off at the exhaust/header guy. CAN'T WAIT!
  6. I remember this Lotus when Ed was was taking the m10 out. I think it was still canted, but the tilted dizzy allowed the hood to close. Will have to go back to some old pictures.
  7. John is correct, it is an integrated part of the door panel. No separate part number. However, if you’re looking for one you can retrofit something similar from a lot of used cars. For example, the e46 has one that is separate. You can file an edge down slightly and it does a great job.
  8. You may consider looking for an OEM set of bumpers and overriders to restore/rechrome. Plenty of initial legwork involved, but you’d have OEM fitment as a result. As for brackets, seam covers, etc. you may want to see what Walloth and Nesch (or one of their US resellers) carry.
  9. Browns Mobile Autoglass up in Azusa. They did my 2002 5 years ago, and I’ve known them to do other 02’s.
  10. No, they will not work on a standard 2002 strut.
  11. No, in my cheater method… the od/id ratio on the inner flange (thin) indicate these are the larger bearing hub compatible with the tii strut. Your looking for hubs with a thicker inner flange. edit: ignore the calipers/rotor, and focus on the hub in the photo here. Notice the thicker inner flange… that’s what you’re after. by last count that still makes me eleventy billion in the hole on being corrected by sensei Toby… but every bit counts!
  12. Price on these would have been around $330, about $30 more these days with quite a long lead time. Thanks for the kind words. Whoever buys them from @Pouya, PM me and I’ll email over instructions and reference photos.
  13. Consider resurfacing the flywheel.
  14. Owner is on the FAQ, Dan Melcher. Good guy. He had a lot of the fab work done by CA Tuned circa 2015? Motor is F20 swapped. Some neat touches for sure.
  15. Kind of like the 2002 version of a Yenko Camaro.
  16. A1 Imports and North Bay Bavarian. this question comes up at least once a year, so there should be plenty of recommendations if you search.
  17. Little curious as to why you’d need more info, given there are so many well-documented threads already? I ran the IE polys for 60k. They were firm, but not harsh (like the motor/trans mounts tend to be). They also felt a tad softer with time. No damage to holes. I also don’t mind the OE rubbers, but they are getting pretty expensive for a rubber consumable.
  18. I'll take problems that don't exist for $100, Alex. (Unless plastic impellers are now a thing? Last I checked they weren't),
  19. The front grill looks slightly thicker than I would expect.... therefore I think it's a plastic version that's been retroactively chromed. The side mirror, and also, the wheels being Chromodoras (not the Stilauto's) lead me to think that this car was a well-intentioned tribute. Pretty car though. Wait.... edit: originally the thread title didn't say "fake"... oh well.
  20. Doesn't really matter .... but I follow diagram 34/27.
  21. That's an accomplishment! All that work, and you'll have a dash just as the 02 designers intended. Congratulations.
  22. Maybe I'm a bit YOLO, but.... go for it. In 2010 I moved to LA with everything packed into my honda accord. A week living out of my car, it was totaled by a gentleman running a red light. The solution? Buying an 02 sight-unseen off of craiglist up in Seattle, perfectly reasonable. Bought a one-way ticket, flew up, bought the car, fluid change, then spent two weeks driving it down highway one. Slept in car or on the beach .... great memories. It then became my daily driver in LA up until 2014... drove it on the 605, 405, 210, and 57 regularly. Got in one accident (crunched nose a bit) and it left me stranded once when the diff spider gears gave up the ghost. Wouldn't DD one now, given life situations.... however, if you're young, go for it.
  23. The front brake setup is the common Volvo240caliper/E21hub+rotor based big brake kit. Educated guess is that it was purchased from IE.... given the pads fit flush to the rotor in the Y-axis (meaning the caliper has been modified to fit correctly).... also the 12x57mm front studs are indicative of IE. Take the drum off and show us the spring setup inside, that'll help definitively answer if the rears are 250mm or not. Quick glance leans me towards, yes. Welcome to the FAQ~! Looks like a fun project.
