  1. Then chop the bottom of the radiator. I'm with Mike, you could make it work this way. Much simpler than the other option, but not as easy as just pinning it. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why you had to remove the uprights to begin with. You can lean the radiator up against them. Love the project, you have a blog yet?
  2. Took the words out of my brain. The KW's for the 2002's are not an off-the-shelf part number. For the states, I do batches on behalf of CoupeKing (doing another run right now). We the vendor can spec whatever we want within reason, given they are "custom". However, over time I have a couple setups that are pretty well suited for a couple applications we typically use and I don't like to deviate from them given the liability and associated price tag. I would suggest going to MCS, GC, or IE if you wanted to custom spec something. Pricing will vary.
  3. Frankly, I don't think a 2002 is the right fit for you to begin with. When "resale value" becomes one of your mandatory guiding principles when taking on a hotrod you've lost the point.
  4. @visionaut is spot on. Quick visual tells me they are standard 02 calipers.
  5. Given past experience inspecting their work, I would strongly recommend a PPI from a knowledgeable 2002 source. Maybe on paper. Me thinks if someone dyno'd this today it'd be a far cry from that number. I'd take a borescope to that head and checking to see what's inside. The Italian invoice shows a receipt for new pistons for $900.00. Guessing the head is not "hemi'd with matching pistons" as per recent FAQ posts, could be proven wrong... hence the PPI.
  6. Ireland urethane bushings have been on cars actively for over twenty years and on literally thousands of 2002's. What exactly is your argument? As long as you aren't going to use urethane drivetrain mounts, the ride result is firm (similar to fresh rubber) but without the degradation effect of old squishy rubber. Fresh bushings, steering, and a cleaned-up undercarriage goes a long way. In addition to the investment-strategy buyers, the car would now be appealing to the buyer segment who would actually want to drive and enjoy a well sorted car. However, define "significantly better price". A thirty year-old "restoration" is likely not considered a restoration at this point. my 0.02
  7. Spacing is wrong, and the bearing sizes/styles are very different (obviously you know that). BUT, if anyone could prove it could be done with some finagling and pull something out of their hat, it'd be you. -would love to hear more about said V10.
  8. I use this stuff on my microelectronics repairs. It's very intense adhesive. Don't expect to remove it easily, but it'll certainly be the best shot you have.

  11. @Setuck I’m in garden grove, mine is also a 1971…. go figure, there are a handful around. You could have at it yourself, if you felt so inclined. They do require some nuance, but it’s not bad. I have a lot of reference photos, but there are some great ones already around.

  14. To wrap this up. After talking with the shops above and looking around, it seems like the PE3-IG2 from Performance Electronics will be a good alternative.

  17. Rodolfo, you've over thought this to the point of being indecisive. You are going to second guess nearly every comment, as you should, because our experiences will vary. Cracks or chips in any coating will allow for water ingress. Much of any abatement will be due to your own due diligence and attentiveness. I like butyl plus thin layer of carpet padding in footwell areas, but again... to each their own.
  18. John, As mentioned it's for the 121 head that was bored in a hemi-shape. Here's a visual reference I posted nearly ten years ago. The NOS Motorsport Head as listed came from Vasek Polak's liquidation years prior.
  19. Looks like a great blank canvas on which to build a tastefully upgraded 2002. Jim’s being an excellent example. There are an ever increasing amount of people removing themselves from social media (myself included) and rediscovering forums. I hope you’ll get a chance to do a blog here, as that’s the only way many will follow along with your progress.
  20. Great price, barring what has already been mentioned. Tell us when it’s in your garage. Post lots of pictures, and we’ll help you out. If your not mechanically inclined but wanted to change… the 02 is just about the perfect learning platform on which to do so.
  21. My supremely knowledgeable opinion; who cares? Unless you bought the car as an investment….? Do what you think is best. This was just talked about at length if you go back a page or two. Riveting conversation (get it?)!

  23. In regards to your shifter… 1) the kit Jim linked above is no different than one of IE’s kits. The idea being you run the later 2002 hardware and a later bmw shift lever. Toby and I like to verbally chastise each other on our differing opinions on early vs. late shift hardware. 2) Given your race car bench mark…. it won’t happen in a street2002. You can improve a sloppy 2002 shifter with kit(s) like the one above (also recommend replacing the two shift plate mounts and support rod bushing) and get maybe %50 towards your benchmark. It’ll never feel like an s2000 though. 3) You can go with a tunnel mounted shifter like AKG or bimmerworld, but while the shift lever itself will be planted feeling, you’ll need urethane motor/trans mounts to similarly stiffen the drivetrain. In short, there’s no golden bullet. Your friend may be well-meaning, but given your benchmark, perhaps it’s not the best advice. —— On the panels, yes on later green clips.
