  1. Anthracite Grey from BMW (my choice if I ever repaint either car) or 2606 Slate Green Metallic from your colour chart.
  2. And don't fudge the purchase price to save on any fees/duties/taxes. Nothing on earth is worse than a bad case of Homeland Insecurity. Not even the Spanish Inquisition has more power and less compassion than a Customs Agent. Makes the IRS look like the tooth fairy. When I brought the 2002 in from WA, there was an American tourist that lied to the Canadian Customs about how much alcohol he had for his weekend trip. They tore his SUV apart, seized the booze, fined him many times the value of the contraband, kicked him out of the country and put a don't come back order on his file. All of this in front of his three children and wife. Apparently they do the same going the other way but you get a trip to Cuba (Gitmo) as an incentive to be truthful. All they asked of me was to pop the hood so they could see what a carburator looked like.
  3. Looks like fun. Here's one I did last year I'd recommend for anyone's bucket list. http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/bowron_lk/
  4. Just went through the same thing. Pull plug # 1 and rotate the engine until it's at TDC. Put a timing mark on the pully at the crank and test with the timing light to see what the engine sounds like or drive it and see. A bit of trial and error should give you a good reference point - then make a permanent set of marks.
  5. If you elongate the bolt holes on the caliper by 3mm +/- you will get the full swept area of the pad on the disc (increased braking) and the 13" wheels will fit without grinding the high points. Use a dremel tool and cylindrical grinding bit to hog the holes. Personal preference - I would advise on buying remanufactured discs and calipers - pretty cheap and saves a lot of time and effort. They will have way more experience then you or I have. Doug
  6. Real OEM show two mirror types. Yours looks like the electric. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=3435&mospid=47811&btnr=51_3437&hg=51&fg=10 Mine are manual and common to the 2002 and e3 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=3435&mospid=47811&btnr=51_3517&hg=51&fg=10
  7. Blunt - how many yards of carpet to do a full set? Just in case I want to change the rec room stuff in the Sahara.
  8. The dog can lick his eyebrows!!!! The bitches will be all over that.
  9. Bill: The Mike Pugh bottom bleeder looks pretty hi-tech. In order to avoid buying the BMW special tool pump unit (very $$$$$$) do you think the ol' reliable turkey baster would work? Can't be much head to push. Doug
  10. Depends on your shoe size. Pretty cramped around the accelerator pedal and if there was less bulk around the tunnel you're less likely to hit both the gas and brake at the same time. Just an opinion with size 11 feet.
  11. This is a Odyssey PC 680 in my 73CS which turns over the m30 block with out any problems. Runs the power amps on acc no problems. Very happy with it. If there is room under the rear seat for a full size battery then go that route - probably cheaper for more crank power. Add a disconnect switch to the circuit which ever way you go.
  12. I have a 320i rad with a thermo switch and pusher fan that I believe was original equipment on the car. Anybody know what the cfm of the fan is or where I could look to find out? Part #1 74 01 361 556 It also had a conventional five blade fan so it might be just to augment cooling though what a car in Canada would need additional cooling for is beyond me. Thanks
  13. 4 cheap new snow tires and 100 lbs of sand over the rear diff will beat anything short of 4 snows on a 4x4. This is what you do with the stock steelies when you buy them pimpin' alloys.
  14. Thanks - e12 it is and grommets are $3 each.
  15. Anybody installed this in a 76 2002? How close did the stock brake lines match up with the 530i fittings? Thanks
  16. Jerry: One of the reasons I went with the IE springs was to change from the chopped stock springs that the PO had "custom" fitted. Must have been the same guy. Thanks
  17. As an interesting follow up to my question, the local machine shop I took this question to said they are prohibited by law (it's Canada....) to making any alterations to a fabrication related to brakes, steering or suspension. Something about altering safety related items that are certified for use on public roadways. That doesn't mean I can't do it myself or buy modified components (like Irelands calipers) and install them but no shop will touch it. To that end, he can produce machine plugs for me to press in and then find a drill press and rebore the holes with the offset. Or not.
  18. Lived there (learned to ski at Habitant!!!) a long time ago (1958ish). Summer at Lac Joseph. Great roads (329) between La Chute and Morin Heights we drove to St-Sauveur from Ottawa. Here's my fall drive. Doug
  19. The only thing I miss about Ontario is the leaves at this time of year. Takes some pics and post them. Have a great drive. Doug
  20. All performance = low performance. Buy a set of snows if you must but keep the summer tires. One of the most disappointing additions to my 73CS was a set of "ultra high performance" all seasons to replace a set of worn Yoko ES 100 summers. Even cruising speed in a straight line didn't feel as good.
  21. Your state laws with respect to registering a vehicle will have a lot to do with the answer to your question. Start the investigation there. Add the cost of what it will take to make it safely driveable and somewhat presentable to the $850 asking price and then see what else is available for the same cost. My guess is that you would be further ahead and driving sooner with less risk (both physical and financial) with another couple of thousands that you will have to spend anyway. Above all take it for a drive and panic stop to check for some brakes. On the other hand if the body is very good and you like to work on cars then $850 for a decent runner is a good starting point. Just an opinion - not necessarily the truth.
