  1. The ball joints can be easily changed on the car without removingthe control arms. You will need a touque wrench and a ball joint seperator tool. There are two types, the pickle fok type and the screw lever type. The screw lever type is best because you simply slide it on and turn the removal bolt and the ball joint pops loose. The pickle for can be used but does require alot of pounding on the took, which can be dicey if you are under a car on jack stands. It is also a god time to do the tie rods as well. Those ball joint ends take a beating and are usualy ready for replacement at he same time. 2. I'm sure you weren't storing your car there on a permanent basis. I'm sure it was there temporaily while you did some work to your garage!
  3. Looks like the 320i I bought for $100 as a donor car for the 5 speed. Same color, same faded paint. I realy enjoyed mine, owned it for almost 24 hours.
  4. You'll wait forever for the part, then it will be the wrong one. And you can never reach them to return your money. They manage to drag out the order for over 45 days, so even Paypal can't get your refund. If I had to depend on 2002AD for parts, I'd sell my 2002.
  5. My '73 2002tii purchased new in July, 1973 has a sticker of $5509. I still have the sticker. When I bought the car, the non tii was about $400 lower.
  6. Remember, POR 15 only works on rust, not on clean metal. SO if you clean it completely, youre better off to use a good rust preventative primer (rted-lead for example). If you only get the surface rust off, POR 15 will attack the remaining rust and neutralize it.
  7. Only needs carpet shampoo! Pristine!! I may buy it just to get the RARE sunroof.
  8. You need a fork seperator tool. It is wedge shaped with a slot in the middle. You slide it between the link and the idler arm and hit it with a hammer and the link will seperate.
  9. I just changed my "wheel skin" (leather steering wheel cover) for the 3rd time in 35 years. Amazing what the original stock steering wheel looked like agter 35 years under cover! Like a babies bottom never exposed to sunlight. I gave it about 10 minutes in the open air, them covered it for another 15 years or so. Maybe now I'll change the 35 year old cocomats.......nah!
  10. I know if the shaft that controls the butterfly is worn, the engine will have a tendency to run lean at times, rich at others, making for unstable performance. Some get so bad that the only good fix is to have he shaft machined and bushed, making it tight again. Also, like the earlier comment, if your car has a vacuum advance on it, it is the wrong distributor. That was only used on 1974 tii's. Good luck, it will work out.
  11. Looks like oil from the valve cover. When header leak, there is no oil, just exhaust gases and noise. If you already changed the valve cover gasket, you may have snugged it too tight.
  12. I'd bid $.06 but I'm afraid I'd get it!
  13. I first did an aftermarket "Pinkerton" windshiel from a glass guy the body shop uses on my M635. It was $300 installed and when I got the car back, you could see what looked like sandblasting in the laminations when you were in the sun. I took the car back and insisted on OEM BMW glass from the dealer. Turned out, the dealer glass was no more expensive and it was perfect, logo and all. Stay away from these aftermarket brands, they are crap.
  14. I think both of those armrests are the same color, one is just faded from prolongs sunlight exposure. I am not aware of BMW making 2 interiors that clos ein color. As for making them a different color, SEM maks a very good vinyl paint. It is flexible and comes in both spray cans and in pints for your own sprayer. They have mamy colors to choose from and most automotive paint stores that carry it also mix custom colors. With simple prep and cleaning you can pint vinyl, rubber and plastic and it lasts very well.
  15. One note. The heater valve does not use an o-ring. It uses a quad ring. It is like an o-ring but has 4 sealing sides. An o-ring will work at first but leak shortly after.
  16. I was just going through my BMW stuff (smells like Jade East) from when I bought my car in 1973. One of the items in the "Dealer Accessory" booklet was the lower black trim. The caption on the picture said it can make your "older" '02 look like a new model. Funny how tastes change back and forth. One day soon I'm sure I'll be wearing those bell-bottoms and Earth shoes I've saved all these years and be "in" again.(or finally?) Bleeding madras anyone?
  17. You're the man Doug! Very creative. Let's hope Pierre doesn't end up with a Heatache Tonight!
  18. There are 2 things to take in consideration. The Becker you are showing is from a Mercedes. It has the stripped faceplate that all Mercedes used. The Becker is also a DIN mount, not a shaft mount. Most BMWs from the early days used shaft mount radios. The DIN mount requires a very large rectangular cutout and mounts using clamps at the ends whereas the shaft mount uses a smaller rectangular cutout for the tuning area but mounts through the holes of the hsafts with simple hex nuts. The Beacker has many features but the Blaupunkt is more period corect for BMWs, if you are going for original. The dealers back then leaned more to the shaft mount installation. BTW, Blaupunkt did make a nice AM/FM/cassette in 1973 that was shaft mount. It is the dealer installed that my dealer installed in my car in 1973. They are rare but I did find an original, NOS one last year on Ebay to replace the original one that was not working. Good Luck
  19. Max, The bag that came with my tii is tan colored vinyl on the outside with a cloth inside. the edge is bound with a red cloth. If you need a picture or two, drop me an email and I'd be happy to take a few shots. rsterbens@socal.rr.com While you at it, lobby them to make some basketweave vinyl in Tobacco to match the smooth they already produce. I know of several people looking for he correct interior vinyl to re-do they original interiors. These are the 1973 cars and earlier.

  21. From what I've seen, Seams Perfect does very nice german square weave sets. Nice 02 owner owns the shop and is great to work with. Delivery times vary by order I hear. Esty, start your engine! http://www.seamsperfect.ca/bmwprods.htm
  22. I used a Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" on the black plastic on my M635. It has a built-in soft scour on it and it really does a nice job. It also works well on the headliner and dashboard with mild scrubbing. Go easy, it surprising how well it cleans. I also found the best paint for those black area on cars is available in automotive paint stores is called Trim Black. It is the perfect luster for all exterior black surfaces on cars. SEM is an excellent brand carried by many stores.
