  1. That size is available from Sumitomo through Tire Rack, about $52 each. I have them on my tip and they drive nice and fit fine.
  2. You were told wrong. The California vehicle regulations clearly stat that "Historical Vehicles" do NOT need a smog inspection. You just need someone at another window that will look in the right place in the book. I just registered my '85 M635 last week and applied for historical plates, no smog required.
  3. affectionately known as the tri-y header - much better low-mid range torque as compared to the more typical 4 ->1. ALPINA made one like this (this one may be one?), ANSA also made a knock off like this and Schrick made one as well. Below is a link to a post I did on the Schrick M10 headers. http://www.alpinabmw2002.com/2010/03/schrick-bmw-m10-headers.html Those are NOT tri-y headers.
  4. +1 on Ray's comment. The body shop is in the street along the curb and the paint booth is a couple 2x4's nailed together covered in dusty plastic.
  5. I wouldn't use anyone mentioned above. The first one is very sketchy (do a search on this site) and the 2nd is way over priced and paints the cars in a tent made of old visquean. Add the $1000 to what you'll be spending to send it to California and get yourself a nice job close to home where you can watch the progress.
  6. Purchased at 2002AD? Do you guys wanna break the news to him about anything from 2002AD?
  7. I had mine done at Jim's Upholstery in San Diego (check website). Both front sport seats (M635) in correct leather were $850. Take them less than a week and you can drop off just the seats. http://www.jimsautoupholstery.com/
  8. I have seen that a/c on a car recently. It was dealer added but don't remember the name. Looks TERRIBLE!
  9. ProBimmer has very nice ones, heavier duty than stock.
  10. Requires the car running for full benefit. I've heard that urethane in the Cube is not advised. FYI......
  11. Quick tip. When posting photos, use a .jpg file instead of a .tff. It will show up on most computers without needing a photo editor. Welcome to the club, now have you learned the secret handshake?
  12. Try Vintage Air...right there in Texas. They are very helpful.
  13. Thanks guys for all the nice comments. The people at Bimmer are really first class and did a great job. Once again....thanks to all the fellow 02ers.
  14. Original doesn't mean never maintained. I guess my car isn't really original, afterall, I have changed the oil several times too Matt.
  15. I want to renew all the rubber parts in the rear end of my tii. Does anyone have a complete parts list of the rubber bushing, etc. needed to do the job? I'm looking for part numbers and description. Thanks in advance. One more question, can this be done on the car or is it better to remove the rear sub-frame?
  16. I have done some alternator work on my car and maybe I can help explain what I have learned. Only the very early tii cast aluminum cover incorperated the bracket as shown in Bill Williams picture, shortly after, that lower mount in the casting was deleted in favor of a seperate bracket. The back of those casting usually are stamped 1971. It seemed that it was a weak design, so they changed it to a seperate bracket (like shown in CD's picture) that bolts on top of the front cast aluminum block covering and also has a bolt going through the bracket and into the block. This is also a weak design. As the alternator rubber bushings deteriorate, the bracket wants to shift out of alignment, wearing away at the aluminum cover and can finally break the alternator bracket at the block. I just had this happen to my car. The front cast aluminum engine cover was badly chipped under the alternator bracket, and the bracket was broken. My solution: I got a new bracket and a better engine cover. Then I added a trianglular piece of steel to the bracket which was large enough to allow another bolt through the block in an empty threaded hole, right above the exsisting mounting hole. (If you look close at CD's picture you can see the threaded hole I used right between the alternator and the oil filter shown). Now the alternator bracket puts all the stress on the bolts in the block and takes away the stress on the front aluminum cover. I also reccomend changing the alternator bushins to urythayne instead of the stock rubber one. With this change, the alternator belt stays tight without unnecessary tension on the water pump pulley.
  17. John, when my daughter needed a car 2 years ago, I looked at all my options. I wanted something safe and reliable, that she would have through her college years. After looking at Hondas. Toyotas and the like, I ended up buying her an E46 (2003 3251). It was 3 years old and a CPO car (6 yr, 100k warranty). It came standard with 8 air bags, skid control, ABS and all the other great things that make a BMW so nice to drive. It has been a very good choice. Except for oil changes and one set of tires and belts, no other cash spent. She loves the car and takes very good care of it, being the prowd owner of her first Bimmer. All that for less than the cost of a striped down Honda. Good luck.
