  1. I ran that size for over 20 years. They were Phoenix Stahlflex, which are now obsolete. I just put new tires on my car and the only tires I found in that size were Sumitomos, which have poor reviews. As for rubbing, mine were on original alloys and fit fine, but I've heard of other owners ruunning other brands and rubbing bad when turning. I went withh 185/70/13 Yokahamas this time and they look good but are not as sticky as my old tires. Good luck.
  2. Original paint was acrylic enamel (single stage unless it was metalic). I see you are in So California, The only county that still has it is San Diego County. You can get it color matched at any good reputible auto paint store that carries DuPont. I had a quart matched last year and the stuff is nice. The paint store I used was : TCP Global (858)909-2510 6696 Rasha San Diego, CA http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/acl_files/BMW.html
  3. I used some Eastwood stainless steel coating on my tii exhaust heat shield about 20 years ago and it looks like I did it yesterday. It is a great product and easy to apply. It says it can be brushed but I sprayed mine on with a small gun. If your is rusty, you need to have it blasted first for any coating to stick well and look nice. I attached the link to the product I bought. BTW, I still have some left from 20 years and it is still god in the can. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=732&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=390&iSubCat=394&iProductID=732
  4. Jeff, I'll try to inspire the Orange Co. guys to get up early that Sunday. I'll keep you posted. Andy? Chris? Paul? Tom? Ron?
  5. That looks like it is an E24, coupe. Doors way to long to be a E30.
  6. I have a set of 16" Gotti wheels that were put on my M635 in 1986 by the previous owner, to replace the TRX metric wheels usually found on Euro BMWs. As the one other person said, they were very expensive and custom made to your needs. Mine were like some shown in CDs brochures, with polished outter rims and the center 5 spoke centers were painted Cinnebar to match my car. Recently I was in Speedway Plating in Santa Ana and he had one on display. He said he was the shop that did the custom work on the wheels in the Orange County area in the mid 80's. Good quality wheels with a very retro-look. I'm thinking of having mine restrored to have a backup set of wheels with my Alpinas.
  7. A great shop in Huntington Beach is Coast Motor Werk. Ron is the owners and they specialize in vintage cars as well as high performance mods. Very nice. large clean shop and really great guys. Mush more reasonable than Bullet. Give Ron a call and you'll like what he has to say. 714-894-9849
  8. Another good way to get great results for touch ups is to buy a Preval sprayer. This is a small bottle with a sprayer attachment that you can put your own paint in. Then you attach a CO2 cartridge to it. Very nice results and reuseable with all your small paint jobs. Available at most automotive paint stores.
  9. You can get very nice carpet style mats with the logo or model or both from Mesa Performance. Reasonablly priced about $110 for front and backs, in a variety of colors. Takes about 3 weeks to have them made. FYI, they carry a good assortment of 2002 parts, look at the website. www.mesaperformance.com
  10. That proves that "roundies" are better!
  11. You were the first person I thought about when I saw the news of the fires. Glad everyone is safe. Let me know if there is anything you need.
  12. I do not have those stickers on my June build, 1973 tii. I have never removed one (original car and owner) and there is none like that now. Maybe it is a Euro thing?
  13. Youre lucky the sky was so bright. If it were overcast, we would have all noticed the lint accumulating on the backside of the gas pedal! Other than that, you car deserves the win. Was this the first time its been out of the garage and more than a block from home? Does it realy get waxed only X2 a week? LOL I know where you live!
  14. Thanks Jeff and John for all your hard work, it surely showed and paid off. Also a big thanks to all the participants! Once the planning is done, it was nice to see how many great enthusiasts showed up to make the day a big success. One last thanks to all the votes for my "old" car. It was quite a surprise to come away with "Best 2002" with all the beautiful cars in the field. Thanks again guys!
  15. Since you're in HB, you should look in Autobahn in Costa Mesa. They have an outstanding reputation and work on foriegn and exotics. Check out their website. http://www.autobahnautobody.com/
  16. Tattoo..."A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling", Jimmy Buffett.
  17. The rear plate mounts through the lower holes on the plate directly through the body panel and does rest on the horizontal strip. Some have drilled more holes in the body to lower the plate off the trim but then the plate is not centered in the lights.
  18. I grew up in the suburb of Los Angeles (Maywood-Bell) where Ed had his shop. This was the 60's and everything he did was wayyyyy cool. His son was a schoolmate of mine and pretty quiet compared to dad. Some of my friends and I would go to his shop for pinstripeing of our cars and he would charge about $20 for the whole car...the only catch, you took what he wanted, no input on design and colors. One time he was stripeing my friends Jeep and when he was almost finished going all the way around the car with some outrageious design, he noticed the color he was using has changed hue as he mixed it as he went along. He got back to the point where the two joined and he hated it and grabbed a rag and wiped the car clean! And it looked awesome! Told us to come back another day. Just a fond memory of good times past. Rat Fink forever!!!
  19. I agree with Mark. I know I have driven my 2002 for 35 years without airbags, but we had no choice, there were fewer cars on the road and there were NO SUV's. Today is another story. I drive the 2002 infrequently on weekends and really watch the other guys. I bought my daughter a 2003 325i with airbags, anti-lock and skid control. I wanted all the protection I could give her. I also have a new driver in my house who just bought his first car with my advice. We found him a 1990 325i, first year with airbags. The way I look at it, how would you feel if you put your son or daughter in a car without airbags and they were involved in an accident where an airbag would have saved their life? Could you live with yourself? I couldn't. I know a 2002 is very cool, but in my opinion, no car as a daily driver for a new driver.
  20. I still want the NOS stone guards if the new buyer want to sell them. Please email.
  21. Max...ask them why they don't repro Tobacco (1973 tan) seat materials. There are plenty of us out there that want the stuff!
  22. I relly want the NOS stone guards. My car is totally original and I a original owner. They would really make my day. Let me know what you want, SOLD!
