  1. Wow, thats a pretty big comparison.
  2. Wow, very nice, very quick. Exhaust sounds awesome, I remember its 2.5" but what resonator/muffler combo? Have you weighed your car recently?
  3. I'm assuming water temp. Of the two sensors on the coolant rail, the blue one is for the DME and the brown one is for the temp gauge in the e30m3 cluster. Just replace the brown one with whatever sensor you can find that matches your gauge's voltage range. You really should be searching for this over on s14.net not here.
  4. I hope youre planning on adding a bigger baffle in there than just the stock one. I know several local guys whove spun bearings using the 'stock baffle plus overfill' method.
  5. If you know they are out there, why dont you search for them like everyone else?
  6. Just a suggestion. Take a look at r3vlimited.com and speak to the owner. They only have one nonintrusive ad at the top right. The large majority of the companies that have ads on there are ones that sell strictly e30 products, the rest cater to BMWs in general. I'd venture to say that r3v has more active members, many many subforums(which the FAQ desperately lacks), a fully functioning PM system AND individual member galleries with 100mb personal space. All this paid for by the one ad, little if any comes out of the owner's pocket I believe. I love the FAQ and it has been invaluable to all of us but just because our cars are from the 70s doesn't mean our forum needs to look and act like it is too.
  7. Uh no it doesnt. It has an M54 out of a e46 330. Wow, he's going to stick an S54 in there? Unless he's going to do the extensive mods to get the motor lower and further back, I'd rather stick with the FI S14.
  8. That's complete crap. Only reason he's saying that is for the G50 that the 87s and 88s have. The 915 tranny isn't any less reliable.
  9. and the fuel pump relay. You dont want it squirting fuel in the cylinders while youre cranking it, washing the oil off the walls.
  10. A 911 motor rebuild will cost you quite a bit more than a M10 rebuild. Those P&Cs demand some coin. You need to go do a lot of searching on rennlist and pelican. Normally a 12k$ car will have some issues besides a high-mileage motor. As someone else mentioned, Porsche people are quite different from BMW people. You can come to your own conclusions as to how or why. That being said, my next car will without a doubt be a long hood early 911 w/ a 3.6.
  11. Well of course, but there are other ways to stiffen a flat panel. Welding a couple of I-beams, going from the left to right side of the car every foot or so would probably do the trick. Weld them to the flat panel, the tunnel and rockers. You could also use the middle two to tie the seat rails together.
  12. Have any of you with dedicated track/race cars replaced the stock floor sheet metal with a simple flat piece of sheet metal? I'm talking about firewall to rear bulkhead. It would make mounting seat rails and pedal assemblies on the floor a whole lot easier. I'm painfully aware of all its many contours trying to get the sound deadening out. I figure the contours are there for stability as much as drainage. Dumb idea?
  13. So are the 110v machines worth it? I was looking at getting a Miller 140. I'm in an apt and Im not going to get into a house for a long time most likely. I guess I'll take the advice given here and go buy it from a local welding supply place. Can I start out with flux wire so I dont have to get the gas canisters and all that jazz right away?
  14. Man, you must really enjoy frustration, putting the motor in like that, without the tranny.
  15. Ya, youre right. Brain fart on my part, I knew there was some I reason I couldnt cut it out. What size exhaust? Driveshaft with the G265?
  16. Wow, so very nice, so many questions. If I remember correctly, youre using the 265 right? If so, nice job on making the tunnel surgery look like it never happened. What driveshaft did you end up using? Are you running an electric fan? What cfm did you deem adequate for sitting on the grid? Arent you worried about running in the rain with no wipers? I too want to get rid of all that sheet metal right underneath the windshield but not having a wiper system worries me. I guess Rainx is always an option. 2.5" or 3" exhaust? Did you shorten the shift linkage or move the hole in the tunnel?
  17. Hey Lee, The setup you have pictured is exactly how I will do it once I have a fire suppression system installed. But since that wont be for a few years, I'm really against running the lines through the cabin. That and Ive already rashly purchased the hard lines. I wanted to protect the hard lines under the car, hence trying to shove them as high up off the ground as possible. I just wonder if I need to be concerned about it being hot enough to ignite the fuel.
  18. I debated whether to run my hard fuel lines through the passenger compartment or under the car. Due to lack of a fire suppression system in my car for the next year or two, I elected to go with underneath the car. That being said, I am worried about puncturing a line during an offroad excursion. I'd like to run the lines tucked up in the tranny/driveshaft tunnel. Should I be concerned about heat from the exhaust and tranny in this location?
  19. For some reason I envisioned it being a paper gasket not an o-ring. Thanks blunt.
