I gather that one of the reasons folks move from 13-inch wheels to 14-inchers is because of the paucity of choices when it comes to 13-inch tires.

Dunno, maybe you folks all know about Coker Tire. They buy obsolete molds and continue to produce those tires.

Thus the Michelin XAS and Vredestine Sprint - both pretty good tires - remain available through Coker in 165-13 sizes.

Just thought a few of you might be interested.

Im tempted to throw a set on my new Turbines wheels. I'll have to see how they compare in price to the 13" Maxxis performance tires.

John hits on the problem. Coker tire are pretty expensive, at least that my understanding. And tire tech and tread design have advanced a long was since 1970. So a more modern, less expensive tire seems liek a better choice unless you're a stickler for originality.

Some well reviewed Vredestein tires are available in 185/70/13 from www.tiresunlimited.com -- you will need to order them as they are not currently in stock and shipped from Europe.

Look! Tire rack has Kumhos in the correct size for our 02s. I love the Kumho 185s on Otto but they are a bitch to turn while standing still.

I have a set of four Vredestein QuaTrac 2's in 185-70-13 that have less than 50 miles. I bought them 2 weeks ago, mounted them and ended up trading them out for Vredestein Sprint +. I will post these for sale soon on FAQ.

Can you let me know why you decided to swap the Qua Trac 2's for the Sprint + and where you ordered them from? Also, what size did you order the Sprint + in... they appear to only come in a largest size of 165R13... which is a slightly smaller tire, but will work. Are you satisfied?

Thanks much.

The XAS's Coker offer are tube type tires. I dont remember my original XAS's being tube type. I could swear they were tubeless. Is that how you remember them?

I just looked at the Kumho Power Star 758 at the tire rack. I am currently debating them between either the Vredestein Quadrac or Sprint plus. I am inclined to stick with a 185/70/13 tire... which rules out the V Sprint Plus. The Kumho's look nice... any flaws in terms of the ride or otherwise?

I know that at least some of the original XASs were tube-type. The XVS that replaced them were tubeless.

I've driven a tii that had the Coker XAS and was amazed at how little traction they had. I guess they are good for a concours car, but no fun to drive on otherwise.

Based on some 13" tires I had on some previous Hondas (185-70-13), the Michelin MXL and MXV series were much better than the older XAS.

If I'm not mistaken, some steel wheels made for use with inner tubes can be identified by a square section where the stem protrudes from the rim. Not 100% sure about this.

At one time, Coker was selling Michelin's for use with tubes.
