The sills are correct for at least some markets, see QUATTROROUTE Agosto 1967 very clear pictures, black rocker, no bright trim; all the pictures I've seen that are contemporanious, the 1600 with no rocker (sill) trim are painted black and have the rear emblem that is "BMW16oo" no rondel

didn't know that - and that applies to a '69 car too?

My best guess is no, by 1969 it seems all the cars had the lower bright trim, over time the cars became more uniform (1600 and 2002). During 1969 for instance both models went to short neck diff (different ratios) and the 1600 got the double CV jointed half shafts used on the 2002.

Which brings me to Jeff's cool 1600, looks like Manila (maybe Sahara) what about the front seats? Notice the full recliners, my understanding is the non-reclining (adjustable cam) seats were supplied with the 1600 through at 1970, while the 2002 and 1600ti had the full recliners

Yes _ I won the Golden ticket and will be driving the 68 Manila to V&V for

Sam. It will be great to have a cross country adventure. In 1990 I drove my

first BMW a 69 Manila across the U.S. Doing it again is unbelievable.

Still coming up with a route and people to caravan with.

Hey Blunt- I am a bit scared to stop by your place after seeing your

enthusiasm towards early 1600s

From what I understand, the early cars guess up towards vin 152xxxx ish didn't have the lowest bright trim at all. Then it became optional in Europe till it became a standard feature. Don't know when that was though. In the US there was a point when many many things like that became "mandatory" options by the importer Max Hoffman.

According to the original owner of my 67, the rocker trim was optional in 67 and if you did not order it the paint there was flat black. That's the way mine still is, with no holes/provisions for rocker trim. Also, the 10-slat grille is correct only for 66-67 cars, it comes from the NK sedans. 68 brought the 8-slat to the whole lineup. That Derby car must be a 67. Tom, didn't you say the rear overriders were optional then or was it 68+ that they were optional/Hoffman Standard in USA? That is a beautiful car, I'd love to have it. Looks like it has the light grey Optional basketweave LEATHER seats. Yes, leather was optional then, and only in grey. I've seen it on one 67 in rought shape and I have the original dealer parts book from 66/67 to prove it :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
