Bought this car a year ago from someone who didnt have a lot of info on it.  Purchased in West Palm Florida.
My back surgeon just cleared me to work on cars again.  So this is the first dig in.

I have investigated the races that the stickers allude to, no results on those.

I am trying to gather any clues I can of who built the car/engine.

Can you read the VIN on the inner right fender?  There should be a number stamped into the body itself, and an aluminum plate with (hopefully) the same number pop riveted into the same general area.  It might then be on the FAQ registry.  If that's a US spec roundie the VIN should begin with 166, 167, 257/8/9 followed by four additional digits.

This community is crazy, you id’d this obscure opel part from the 90s.  Bravo!

hopefully its obscure enough that its a hint to who built this car.  Probably not too many people ran that coil.

Hey, here’s something for you - I googled the vin and came across the below site that shows it was being auctioned off in 2014 by “Bayles Tuning and Electrical” to satisfy a lien.  Sounds like it was probably abandoned at the shop after work was completed.  Their Google reviews show pics of lots of classics, including some older bmw’s

Auction notice (search your vin to quickly find your car as there are lots of others listed)

https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/resources/legal-notices/2014/08/legal-and-public-notices-august-8-2014.html

Given that it was abandoned maybe they’ll have some recollection of what was done to it, but they probably won’t have anything nice to say about the previous owners!

@02Les May be able to provide more info too

I would think that someone from FARA or HSR might have something on it, looks it ran with both of those race entities - 2017 isn't that far back now.

Lots of parts and pieces there, you have a 'project' for sure.  If it is going to be more than a track day car and you are going to vintage race it, figure out who with and what their rules are.  That can be a really slippery slope as far as what is allowed and what isn't.  I found a video on Youtube of an HSR sprint event from 2017, looks like all sorts of different spec cars running, ditto with FARA.

Good luck with your project.

Thank you.

Well there's a 4-pin plug. So it probably has integrated drivers and is controlled by +5V maybe...

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
