A Hagerty POV

My grandfather owned a series of new Monte Carlos in the early to mid 70’s.  Lots of great memories driving around in those cars with him!  As to the 02’s, what do I know but the market for the base models has seemed stronger of late than the market for tii’s at least looking at BaT.

I knew I’d piss someone off, Charles! Sorry if I was brutal!

Best regards,

Steve

Hagerty articles like this one and in their mag are aimed at the investor who buys/sells cars like oats or corn, not for the guy who has an old car for driving enjoyment.  So it seems the car investor hasn't lost as much on the average as my 401k.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

….and holy guacamole, reading that circus of a comments section just makes me that much more grateful for you gentlemen and ladies here on the FAQ.

Lol, this is exactly who I was talking about in the other thread about flashing headlights and waves. The muscle car driver.

So since I bought my car for $600 , does that mean it’s only worth $570 now ?!

Yes, but to be generous I’ll come over and drop off $900, please have it gassed to full for me since I’m offering a premium

Hagerty has my respect (and a healthy annual check for my policy), but doesn't running an article like this create a self-fulfilling prophecy?  The market seems overhyped, with prices continuing to go beyond expectation at auctions and especially on some auction sites. A simple suggestion by Haggerty is likely to overhype in the opposite direction - by scaring off potential buyers.  The upshot is that the buyer pool becomes more enthusiast oriented, and less speculator polluted.  The downside is that parts, repairs and restorations don't go down in cost, and become a little harder to rationalize.
