13" Tires

Does anyone have recent experience with 185/70 x 13 Toyo Extensa AS tires?  They seem to be readily available in the $60 or so range...any good?

I agree with the posters about Kuhmo Solus tires...not much good in the wet.

Hi

If you are in the States, you can buy the CN36 from Lucas Classic Tires.

https://www.lucasclassictires.com/185-70VR13-PIRELLI-CINTURATO-CN36-1857013CN36.htm

Also correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that the CN36 and the XDX  https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/5439/category/6865 are the only classic tyres in the size 185/70VR13? Does anyone know of another.

Lucas do a 175/70-13 CN36 as well https://www.lucasclassictires.com/175-70VR13-PIRELLI-CINTURATO-CN36-1757013.htm they are a bargain at present.

Just to provide the overall picture, a 175/70-13 tire is approximately 3.4% smaller in diameter than the standard 165/80-13 tire. As the attached illustration from TireSize.com illustrates, if your speedometer was 100% accurate at 60 mph before the switch from 165/80 to 175/70, the actual speed after the switch would be approximately 58 mph, although 60 mph remained the displayed speed.

If your speedometer, however, like 95% of ‘02 speedometers, is off by 2% to 10% from the the factory, there’s a 50-50 chance that the undersized tires could actually improve your speedometer’s accuracy. ?

Steve

  • 5 weeks later...

I am very happy with the CN36's (185/70 r13) mounted on the dealer option FPS wheels.  The suspension was modified with H&R street springs, Koni Sports and S&S sways. It sits about 3/4" lower.  The car has a very firm ride and flat handling with a '1970's-correct adhesion'.  Which is fine for how I drive.

There's nothing wrong with the Vredsteins, in fact, they are fine tires. But with the CN36s $30 USD cheaper than the Vreds from TireSmack, geez get the damn Pirellis from Lucas and don't look back.
