Suspension overhaul possibly in the next couple of weeks

Here's the write up the one and only Eurotrash did when he re-did my car's suspension.  Lots of pics of what you'll be doing.

The one and only Bill Williams wrote this one:

They are both good.  Have fun.  You won't believe the difference.

If not mentioned above, the refresh kit from BLUNT does not include the (2) differential bushings that are pressed into the rear hanger.

I purchased that same kit from BLUNT (including the other bushings) along with a set of 22/19 Suspension Techniques sway bars for my 69.

If you have the rear sub-frame out and are using lowering springs you may want to install toe-in and camber adjustment tabs while you have the chance.  Camber will be 2-3 degrees off when you put the weight on the new suspension. Also welded in engine mount re-enforcement plates are needed.  I have strut bars front and rear with a battery relocation in the trunk.  I think the front makes a big improvement and I don't see how the rear would not help. For the price compared to all the hardware you are buying I think they are worth considering

I'm in the middle of doing the entire rehab to my front suspension. Recently had a bunch of fun with the control arm bushings, but got all of them in!

Steve from Blunt has been a big help as I blunder through.

The pics I took beforehand and the various suspension rebuilt threads are great too. Post pics as you go!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts on this leg of my 2002 journey.

Update:

Almost have all the parts I have ordered. Thanks Blunt!

Still waiting on H&R sport springs and my rear subframe from coupeking

Decided to replace my front subframe with one that has been reinforced and powder coated also from coupeking.

I may add add some items based on comments in this thread.  Those who hinted at possible project creep were spot on.

1. Backing plates

2. Maybe wheel bearings (I just replaced these last year - less then 1000 miles on them) - because I'm new to this I'm not sure if replacing subframes /suspension will impact the bearings.

3. Refreshed Steering box / coupler

4. Sway bars? And associated bushings.

5. Camber adjustments noted above

Will post updates soon.

Thanks again

Almost have everything I need/want. H&R sport springs arrived today.

Couple more items to go.

Crawled under the car this past weekend and sprayed all my old suspensions rusty bolts with a penetrating oil. To make the job easier when it happens!  Will post pics.

Stock up on Dawn liquid. This makes getting the bushings in a snap.

I would say the toughest parts were getting them out of the control arms and getting the nut off the Pittman Arm.

It has begun.

Some may think I'm crazy for continuing to spend money on this car and they may be correct.

But I have adopted the riflemans creed:

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
