Choke wire

My car starts up very slowly after turning over the engine several times it finally kicks over and then with some coaxing the gas pedal I'm able to get it running. I've noticed that my choke wire is not connected to my weber 3236 carburetor since this is the first 2002 I have ever owned not sure exactly where the Cable is supposed to connect to. Can anyone take send me a picture of where the choke cable connects to the carburetor thank you.

also for reference once the car is warmed up and running after about 15 minutes the car will start up how with just at the slightest turn of the key so it's not a problem in the car engine is warm

First thing:  determine whether your Weber carb is has a manual choke or automatic.  The picture above shows a Weber with a manual choke; if your carb has a couple of small diameter water hoses, or a single wire leading to the spot where the manual choke goes then you have either a water or electrically-actuated choke, and you don't need the cable.  However, if you do have an automatic choke, it doesn't seem to be properly adjusted--and may not be working at all.   Check archives for how to adjust automatic chokes.

 

Be advised that up until mid-1972, 2002s had manual choke carbs, so if your car falls into that range, the existing knob and cable simply weren't removed by the previous owner.    If you do have a manual choke carb, you'll find that the OEM cable is just a bit too short to reach the Weber choke actuating lever, so you'll have to crimp a few extra inches onto the existing cable.

My 71  manual choke is different than the photo above in that the cable sheath attaches to the side of the housing where the arm is located  and the cable attaches directly to the upper butterfly shaft arm. Car is in the paint shop or I would take a picture. It is very stiff and is one of the things I need to work on as it seems to bind up

give us a picture from the top down in a 3/4 view. Your carb may have a manual attachment at the butterfly.

Yes, top of the carb with the air cleaner removed.

Took me a while but here are the pics looking top down with the air filter off and from and angle.

Someone has removed the choke plates and shaft from this carb,  You have no cold start enrichment system at all.  try a few pumps on the gas pedal when it's cold

That's yer problem right there.

I do rather like the safety wire securing the throttle linkage, tho!

Thank you.    And yes pumping the gas pedal when it's cold seems to do the trick for now. Any idea why the choke plates would be removed?
