Just to clarify, the LA rims are the ones currently available from BMW: $220-ish each, plus center cap, through, for instance, BLUNT. You can recognize the new models because they have F.P.S. cast into the rim's face. The period examples have F.P.S. cast into the reverse face, as below -- the only period example among my set. Both photos below are of my period rim.

Regards,

Steve

Paul

See you at Vintage--folks can compare my original alloys with your new ones--see if we can spot any differences.

BTW, the original wheels from he factory were painted grey primer on the back, and the silver paint was only sprayed on the front side, with overspray coming through the holes.  Every original one I've cleaned up is that way.  Do the new ones have silver paint on both sides?

cheers

New wheels have all the variations mentioned in above posts, and are far smoother in finished casting finish than the original ones (less sand casting texture).

Would consider trading for a cosmetically rough set (set of 4) of pre 73 casting ones. These ones are simply too shiny for the F Bomb. Have a set you're thinking of restoring? Maybe we can work out a deal, where you get perfect ones, and I get patina'd ones.

Just toying with the idea.

Also have a set of four 6" x 13" Revolutions I'm sitting on.... not sure what I'll do with them yet.... maybe future barter for big sway bars and sport springs....*maybe*  ;)

Was hoping for an original set w patina

Don't wait for the patina... put a little on there!

A couple thin black-washes of water based paint, wiped and left in the corners should do it.

Maybe a rust colored wash in between.

Water based paint, in case you want to wash it off for a date... or something.

It would add 'depth' to them.

Shiny shoes are for shiny cars.   ;)

I suppose a trade make more sense....

Didn't you paint rusty patina on the steel body patches you welded in, so they would blend with the surrounding metal?

Gaius

From the factory, cars with alloys came with 5 of 'em...same with E21s and E30s...
