engine and drivetrain Grease In The Shifter Cups?

I just finished rebuilding my shifter with all new mounts/bushings.  What's the general consensus on lubing the shifter cups?  I'm thinking just a light coat of bearing grease around the ball and cups or do people leave them dry??

I've always lubed mine with Sil-Glyde, a silicone based paste grease. Bearing grease would probably be fine too. Personally, I wouldn't leave them dry.

+1 on SylGlide....great stuff for lubing non-metallic stuff.  Been using it for 30+ years.

I've been using the same wheel bearing grease container for many years. I recently used it on the shifter cup bushings.

I too pack the space between the cups with grease- seems to last about as long as the bushings,

then you repack it the next time you replace the bushings....

I went with the white lithium...it was still sitting on the pass floorboard from doing the pass window tracks...it's AMAZING what new bushings will do for a sloppy old shifter!!  And to think I was going to sell my lathe last summer.....
