So the flares on this car really might be connected in some way with Schnitzer.

Lars, I think the rear flares on the red car are wider.  Hard to tell for sure but they appear to me to be at least an inch or so wider.....I have only seen one other car with flares like the Memphis car ..... and that is my car when I purchased it back in o2.

 

 

This is the car shortly after media blasting, you can see the flare with the front opening.  There was an oil cooler mounted in each side, one for the motor the other for the differential.

I ran across this photo randomly somewhere a few years ago.  I had to do a double (triple) take.  I am almost sure this was my car running at some point in Italy.  The area's I highlighted were identical to my car + the roll bar inside and attachment points back to the rear suspension appear to be the same.  My car also appeared to have a "CSL esque) rear hoop attached at some point.  This car has that.  My car didn't have the hoop, but I found some carefully brazed in fasteners that would allow for it to be attached.  Interesting.

I know the flares are wider on the red car. If I remember right I´ve been told that they´re KHL street flares derived from some Schnitzer race flares. But before I saw the Lassnig car in Andersson´s post I simply couldn´t imagine what Schnitzer flares should´ve "acted as a model". Now I know.

 

Red car is no racer and has not been AFAIK. I think I was told that it originally was a factory turbo but I didn´t check the VIN (or I don´t remember). Engine in the car when I last saw it was S14 turbo.
