Reminds me of the day I picked up my roundie in van nuys,  car was running when i arrived to pick up my ebay purchase, not a good sign, first stop petrol, what a mess, took a half a hour for a fill up.  My current has found a Chevron pump she loves and can fill her fine hands free with the nozzle finding a catch on bottom of entrance. Put it in slow mode and grab a kleenex to wipe her chin wnen done, Ive found the seepage is caused by left over gas in the rubber bellows below the hole, dab this and drool stains are history.

I go with the handle pointing somewhere around 1 or 2 o'clock, and just shove it in. I lean into it during the entire fill up. Start slowly, and if there's no spillage, you can try full pump. Test some local stations, and see if one works better than the others. I only fill up with Chevron gas, but the nozzles from station to station seem to vary, and luckily I've found a local one that works great on both my '76 and '72.

It must be West Coast problem. I have no problem filling up @ Shell stations in OH. I always pump the gas very slowely regardless is my 02 or any my other cars.

Is this a California problem? I have no issues filling up in PA.
