How Loud Is Your Car At 70Mph?

Recommended Posts

OK, 84 dB at 65 mph.  Weber 38/38 with stock air cleaner, IE shorty header and exhaust, 5 speed, 3.90 LSD, new Esty carpet kit, no insulation in floor or doors.  Car Toys installed dynamat, I believe, behind the rear seat when installing my stereo.  I have new door seals, and new window wing seals, yet to be installed, which should lower the noise a bit more.

I always do it right the second time.

32/36 with synch, headers, ansa, 3.91, new rubber bushings, inside is pretty beat up and the door seals are horrible...

with the iPhone app I peaked at 98 @ 70mph... but just sitting in the car with the engine off it reads 70dbl so I'm not sure I believe it.

Yes, there WAS skin on my knuckles before I started the repair...

I think I will borrow my gf's phone and app it.

Right now I have partial carpet, back seat removed with boards, rear sun deck speakers (not my idea)  and Ansa .  That probably is going to raise the db.  But honestly I have not thought about it.  I probably should turn down the jimi Hendrix, Voodoo Child (extended version) and cut back on the Stevie Ray.  The Pride and Joy with Albert King ain't helping.  I'm going to do the pre and post music sound test.

I'll get back with results.

Well on my way home I got up to 70mph, mine is a 4 speed, twin 45 Dellortos, Crane ignition, 292 cam, port matched head , IE stepped header & 2 glasspac mufflers, 101 Db. I knew it was pretty loud when I hit the go pedal , now I know how loud.  I moved over for a Paramedic & that was 101 Db for his siren as he went past me ! Great test & thanks for the inspiration. My Droid sits upright on my dash next to the gauge pod in a little stand made from a wrench set holder from HomeDepot.

around 100dB - 45 Webers 300° BMW Cam, Turbo exhaust

I'm never without earplugs when i'm driving longer than a few minutes. I have some specially made for me.

Your could argue now if it's still fun if you're constantly having to wear ear protection -  i'm having fun ;)

Oh and my dog looks a bit silly with these on: http://www.safeandsoundpets.com/index.html

I think it should be mentioned that the iPhone decibel meters are not very good. Mine reads over 90dB when i'm simply talking at a normal tone in  a quite room 3 feet away from the phone. earplugs are a good idea... I use them while working, maybe I should just keep them in full time ;)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
