I'm amazed it didn't break in half on the test run.

sounds like normal behaviour to me! In the UK that car would be saved - here's a project thread that has resulted in an 02 chassis with about 10 percent original metal (and a stonking v8) - save of the century I reckon

Such a nice fall day to rip apart a rusty car.

Drained engine oil, tranny fluid?!? and gas from tank.

The trans fluid should qualify as the nastiest, gummiest crap. Wonder if it had been last changed by Paul Wegweiser decades ago.

Hard to tell, but engine block might match the body VIN

Shift platform has the same little tab my car had - possibly for neutral safety switch? The wiring harness had the wires clipped to the triangular shift platform brace.
