Jim says Mann or Mahle. ;-)

You can buy parts, including filters from Steve at Blunttech:

Just email him and parts will magically arrive, with Hagen Dazs ice cream! steve at blunttech dot com

Cheers,

Ray

do not install a cheap oil filter - it might blow out when you start the engine.

What's your take on the M1-102?

Sound too much like sorcery. Is that even possible? Car parts and frozen cream flavored treats?

I am slightly north of you (LJ) and second the suggestion to visit Carl at La Jolla Independent (actually in Bird Rock). He and his crew are a wealth of knowledge and offer up good advice freely. Good luck with the car.

A NAPA gold filter or a WIX (same filter different paint) are the best you can typically buy at your local store. No issues running one on my diesel or the BMW. Welcome to the addiction!!

Sorry to be so pedantic but carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and deadly gas. You can't see it, taste it or smell it.

X 2 on the pedantic - odorless

the smoking has nothing to do with the gas or carburetor

it's just burning oil passing from the valve guides and

guide seals out through the exhaust - stinky

What CD said.

Prolly valve stem seals. To fix that - you need to remove the cylinder head.

Or just burn oil for awhile longer.

The chilton book is a minimum resource. It's really not very good. Search around for some shop manuals - called "the blue books" around here, because they are big blue binders. That's the resource you want to have.

They are great cars to learn mechanic'n on. My 73 was my first project car. Lots of blood, sweat and tears later - I still love it.

Good luck. Keep asking questions.

I recommend only Mahle/Mann brand oil filters.

+1 on Mahle or Mann
