Where Do Dealerships Get These Kids?

Recommended Posts

Shopping for a new car for my wife yesterday, went by a BMW dealership to look at a used 328i vert.

I was shooting the breeze with the sales guy, who appeared about 35 years old. Showed him a picture (below) of the eBay car I just bought thinking he might think it was pretty cool.

He had no idea what it was.

He did offer he was in a really old BMW once, one from the mid 1980s.

Until he passed away recently the salesman who sold me my 2002 in 1981 was still working at our Tucson dealership, and our BMW CCA Chaper's immediate past president is head of sales at the dealership. So, some of them know '02s.

My car's sitting in Tucson right now at the trucking company. Supposed to get here by Wed, but sounds pretty unlikely (South Carolina)

Good, glad to hear at 35 we're still kids ;) Thought at 28 I suppose i'm even better off!

Looking at new BMW's today, and that "image" they portray (well, more the people who buy them), no wonder he has no idea what a 2002 is! Even most of the newer BMW's I see done in a sporting way are more ricer looking to me than anything!

I guess it's our job to keep our cars out on the streets so people can see them! I was quite happy the other day when I saw 2 02's driving. I used to get multi 02 days quite a bit, but the last 5 years or so my 02 sightings have gone way down!

A 20something came up to me awhile back and said he liked my 1 series

------

A few years ago I went to Stevens Creek BMW to order some parts and the parts guy asked year and make. I said a 1972 2002, he said, what year? I said 1972, then he asked why i said 2002...

I sometimes go into my local dealer for odds and ends from the parts department. I'm usually dressed like a bum in jeans driving the e30. Dirty BMW hat. The sales floor people act like I should be using the back door

One day I came from work to pick up a few things. I was dressed in my pilots uniform. I was almost sexually violated by the sales force before I could fight and hack my way to the parts counter. I said to the parts guy "I made it!"

There are those that know cars, and there are those that just sell 'em. Today they are with BMW, next year, they are over at Toyota, a year or two later, they may be at Sears selling dishwashers.

It's like when you go to the parts counter and the guy asks for the model, and you say 2002. And he replies not the year whats the model, and you have to explain that 2002 was the model.

Aha - the old Dr. Cliff Huxtable mentality (great Cosby show edition)! Show up at a car dealership in ratty clothes hoping to get a better deal on a car. Unfortunately, son Theo blows it and reveals dad is a doctor and makes good money.

Most, if not all of my trips to dealerships are in grubby clothes unless I go straight from work. They'll take anyone's money!
