I was pleasantly surprised when I saw vintage cars on the schedule for Sebring....AMAZING...there were 3 02s running...one was FAST!!! Amazing story....it was built in the 70s, the builder also had a CSL, he sold the CSL, and found the original 02 race car abandoned in a back yard, bought it and restored it to its glory. Now his Grandson races it. It has a special Tii pump and Schrick individual throttle bodies...the car was wicked fast! Its the white one...Oh and the CSL in the picture is 1 of 4 factory CSLs made....

Great photos - gotta get to Sebring one of these days!

I spoke with the white '02s owner at the Mitty a few years ago. He had trunk-mounted his alternator back in the day. When the BMW race engineers saw it, they incorporated that idea into the facory coupes. It's a beautifully prepared car, and driven well.

The # 51 is a 3.0 CSL FIA Gruppe 2 car owned by the Hughes Motorsports Collection out of S Carolina; it was fresh from being shown at the Amelia Island Concours. The "Beugelfalte" 328 MM Roadster was also there. http://s225.photobucket.com/albums/dd205/dly17/2011%20Amelia%20Island%20Concours/

The white 510 is Bob Leitzinger, Butch's dad and both are great pro drivers. The yellow 510 may be a rotary powered car I've seen - tube-frame with a big turbo 13b. It was so fast the race officials kept moving him up in classes until he was finally running with the GTP cars. The driver thought it was a hoot - he knew the car really didn't "fit" anywhere, just liked making the the officials try to figure it out!

Ive got a lot of pics of that white 02 from Road Atlanta a few years back. Super nice guy and some interesting mods on the car. I remember it did not use a flex disc at the gearbox but had 3 u joints instead. It also had raised strut mounts bolted to the top of the inner fenders to allow more wheel travel, the previously mentioned alt. driven off a halfshaft, a crazy 4 into 1 bundle of snakes header that i have never seen before, and of course that amazing slide throttle setuo with the injectors out at the bellmouths. Cool car and fast!

Cherry catch can where can you get that from must be one off custom lol nice setp in there. Do they still offer those ITBs anymore.

The ones that are on the car now are different They are red and they said they are made by Schrick. They have a custom Schrick (or Alpina?) Kugelfisher pump. Also a 316 cam and 11:1 compression pistons.

Excellent pictures and great cars! Wish I could take pics like that.

In the white car, I'm trying to figure out where the KF pump gets it pressurized oil supply. I see the braided line at the pump but don't see the other end. Is that a mechanical tach drive on the front of the engine? CD has posted a pic before of similar arrangement.

With the injectors so far out, wonder if fuel spray(ed) out the trumpets when starting that beast?
