I wish i had something valuable to add to this thread. I never really pick fights, so i don't really have a problem

don't feel down...you, [maybe] unknowingly participated in the issue at hand...

i've said it before and i'll keep saying it...controversy is always a blockbuster...considering this thread was a weekend release, the ratings are enormous...typically threads don't get much viewership fridays - sundays...but let someone post a thread that smells of controversy and people stand in line to buy a ticket...like movie ratings, it's not so much about what anyone thinks about the flik, whether it sucked a big one or not...it's about ticket sales...or how many showed up to watch...even if they walked out after the 1st 5 minutes of the show

one of you math experts tell me it ain't so...

and how hard is to change an IP address...

It's not easy to change your IP address. Your IP address is the ID for the location your computer is connected to the internet, maintained by your access provider, so even if you use a diff computer in the same house, you have the same IP address.

far from accurate...i can change my ip address through firefox simply by clicking an icon in my taskbar and selecting from a list of ip addresses...thru use of a proxy, you can appear to be just about anywhere in the world you want

exactly...

ok, lets just say i'm in a better frame of mind today

but

i don't see the big deal with banning assholes

in my 6yrs on this site, there have been 2 assholes that deserved to be banned outright, JhC obviously and the guy who threatened keith kreeger, ultimately forcing him to leave for other boards

this is NOT censorship. its cleaning up the site for all involved who love 2002's and need help with them.

and as far as changing IP addresses etc, it really doesn't matter. register as a new user, act like a punk ass troll like JhC, get banned.

that does not diminish the site for anyone. its steve's faq, he'll ultimately make a decision. having to ignore asshats, when they act as they do, makes this forum and others anything but enjoyable to visit.

there is no doubt that trolls kill a forum & kill the nice flow of a thread with inane argumentative & unreasonable comments , it does lessen the fun on here.Ban them I say . Act like a child be treated like one.

The site does miss Keith and a few others that left. Thankfully, he and the others will still assist via e-mails.

However, the ones that are still here and help out are still a real asset to us.

I learn something everyday from this forum

At the time jonny deserved to be banned for what he did

We'll all be OK. You have thick skin and Armond needs to grow another layer. We all need to take a step back, just like you/we do when something is'nt going right with a car build.

I like Keith Kreeger, he did'nt have to leave. He has plenty more to contribute, but he's choosing not to. The FAQ still moves on.

Who remembers stool pusher? He was constantly stirring crap up, but eventually went away. There have been others as well. It generally seems to be the same cast of characters that get involved in these spats, though they do vary by degree. A few of them are now expressing a desire for others to be banned. Some of the folks calling for others to be banned may have found themselves on the list in the past. It would appear that banning someone's user name would not be very effective. I have seen members here claim to be leaving, going to 'France' for example, only to create a new user ID in the middle of a heated discussion for the purpose of coming back and fanning the flames. I am not technically savvy enough to change an IP, but from what the others have said it doesn't seem too difficult to do so. Banning IP's wouldn't appear to have much effect either. Banning doesn't seem to be the answer.

This is the internet, you will not like or agree with everyone. Some of us here are as passionate about our politics as we are our cars. Some folks here seem to enjoy the verbal sparring and heated rhetoric, they choose to engage in it. Good for them, and have at it, we have a forum or two just for that purpose. Other people take that stuff personally and occasionally the result is unwanted and unwarranted personal attacks on others at every turn and that is unfortunate. The animosity generally seems to originate from those conversations that are extraneous to the purpose of this forum. I don't think I've seen any feuds started over whether Hardy & Beck wheels are better than Alpina. If you have a fragile ego don't bait the trolls and refrain from engaging in controversial topics. Like many of you some of the things I have read here have biased my opinion of the authors. And like many of you I have also had the opportunity to meet some of those authors at local gatherings etc. and found them to be fine individuals, someone else like me but with a different view. The only thing I may have in common with them is our shared interest in our BMWs. That however seems to be enough for a car forum. The trolls inevitably make it clear what they are and what their purpose is. The latest round of trolling is just that, the latest round. The current trolls will eventually move on and make room for the next. When they do, we the real enthusiasts, will continue to come here for the love of our cars and ignore the rest. This forum will remain what it has been in the past if the majority of us display the civility and maturity we wish to predominate the discussions and collectively ignore that which does nothing to benefit the general community.

You are your own best ignore button.

The large print giveth and the small print taketh away.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
