Anybody used 2002AD for paint and interior work?

Thinking about a window out/engine out re-paint, adding AC and replacing the interior on a 73tii. Any feedback on the boys over at 2002AD as far as quality and service? Thanks for any info.

You are going to ship the car from FL to CA? And back? I have no experience or prior knowledge of 2002ad, other than other's feedback, but there are places closer (NC, for example) that are as good as anyone, and I would guess some in FL...Sorry, I know that wasn't your question.

I know of an 02 that was restored by 2002ad and then sold by them, and it is now a total rust bucket only a few years later. Not sure what happend but they wouldn't be my first choice for any kind of body work, paint or otherwise.

If you are going to ship your 02 to So Cal, I recommend this shop for paint and interior work. http://www.coupeking.com/index.php Peter's shop did the paint and interior on both my tii and E3. http://www.coupeking.com/product_id-407.html

If you have real deep pockets, send your 02 to the Work Shop in the Chicago area. http://www.thewerkshop.net/

I wouldn't use anyone mentioned above. The first one is very sketchy (do a search on this site) and the 2nd is way over priced and paints the cars in a tent made of old visquean. Add the $1000 to what you'll be spending to send it to California and get yourself a nice job close to home where you can watch the progress.

I feel like a total NUBE for asking this question without first using the search function....YIKES! I wasn't going to send the car from FL to CA - I found what I think might be a suitable car in CA and was considering having a CA shop do the work and then ship it to FL. I must admit that I'm not crazy about the idea of having work done without being relatively close by the shop to stop in un-announced to check on progress and quality of work. Ben has been good at returning emails promptly but from what I've read in the archives, it looks like it might not be a good idea....glad I asked. Having owned (3) 2002's in the past, the last one being 28 years ago, I got the tii bug real bad and have been shopping for months trying to find a rust free west coast sunroof in great mech. condition. My plan was to have a quality shop do the paint and interior and then drive the piss out of it. Any suggestions on East Coast shops that might fit the bill would be appreciated. I'll post on the Eveglades Chapter here in FL and see what pops up.

I should think you should be able to find someone locally in your area, especially if you don't have major repairs/rust etc., (sorry to say I don't know who that is, but with some research and patience you should be able to find the right person). Now if you do have repairs and or major body work I have two words for you...... "Matt McGinn"....If I were re-dong an 02 that needed panel work/replacement I WOULD send my car cross county to him (I acutally have had him prep some replacement panels for the ALPINA 02 car for me).

I have no experience with SCR but have seen their work in person and have talked with some employees (at V@V). If I had the $$, they would get my business.

Rob @ 2002haus would be able to get it done. He's always got someone over there. If I had to send 10 grand to someone to make a 2002 amazing, I'd trust him.

I'd suggest you personally examine the car before purchase, and then ship it to Matt or a local shop that you trust so you can supervise the process.

I'd not let coupeking change the air in my tires.

My 0.02.

I can tell you who not to use in NC... ha ha... but seriously, I am a NOOB with two years of restoration experience on my '75, and you get what you pay for.

I learned the hard way that the painting is the (relatively) easy and least complex part of the process. Prep, prep, prep is the thing you should concentrate on. Find someone who wants your car to turn out as awesome as you want it to. Of course, prepping the car means hours of work and hours cost money, but ... my on my *next* 02 restoration I will spend a lot more to get the body completely up to snuff before one drop of paint flies out of the gun.

But hey... I've never done this before and I don't beat myself up too much. It's all a big learning experience and lots of fun if you don't take it too seriously.

2002AD is a salvage yard, what kind of car do you think they are going to put together?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
