no complaints about "free ads"...the complaint is about abuse of those ads...not respecting other people that have posted stuff for sale and being moved to the 2nd page by one users behavior

each of us have our opinions...like them or not we are entitled to express them (aren't we)...you have one view which i'm certain you want others to respect....i have another...respect works both ways...it's not a matter of agreement but of agreeing to disagree

it's stupid rude to post 57 items in 57 threads....and that's my opinion....

complaining about being moved to the 2nd page is legitimate....where would every retailer like to have their ads...but what gets front page....where do you want your ads if you are selling....

Posting a message up on the board that another board member is a "worthless piece of crap" is not only a bit overboard but it's rude and unprofessional. Esty, as a professional service provider to members on this forum, we expect more from you.

If you don't like the way a competitor is advertising their product there are much more productive ways to raise the issue. I don't know about others but i'm sure getting tired of all the name calling on this forum.

I agree. I don't care for the name calling and bad mouthing. We are mature adults here with a soft spot for the 02.

My solution (though out of my control) would be to increase the number of items listed on the sales page. Or maybe all first page items are less then a week old. Once over a week they slide to page two and so forth. Webmasters chime in...

I can't beleive this still goes on, and the characters remain the same...

Ya think maybe it's just we have a couple of overly opinionated whiney a$$ mo-fo's hangin' around this place?

Now who's the peice of crap?

It's time for some of y'all to get over yourselfs and stop degrading the signal to bandwidth ratio around here.

absolutely....if you're pointing your finger at me, i'm not ashamed of my style or opinions...if you'll do some reading, not only have i asked politely, several times but so have others that items be 'bunched' in the for sale forum rather than doing what occurred tonight...this is a situation where nice didn't work...sometimes you gotta treat disrespect with disrespect

and it's not about not liking "the way a competitor is advertising their product"...i don't see any of us as being in competition here...just sharing the same space...as a matter of fact, i didn't look at any of his ads but i'd bet money, he's not competing with any "service provider"

I think 57 is officially spam.

42- spam

24- spam

12- overzealous

4 or 5- about the limit for non-California driving decency...

If you wanna do more than about 8, that's why there's craigslist and epay.

pffft...

A couple things....he posted 20...not 57. There is room on page 1 for 45. So if you were in the bottom 25 that got pushed...REPOST...its that simple. Also he's an individual NOT a business, so your point about retailers is invalid. If I was a retailer...ID PAY FOR ADVERTISING or deal with it as the price of doing business...repost the ad so it stays on page 1. I appreciate simple ads, prices marked, and I have purchased MANY items from him and he is reputable and a standup guy. There are FAR worse here. What about the guys that say for sale...then post their ebay link...Thats an auction, not sale...or the guys that put an item for sale...no price and go for the highest bidder instead of the first responder. You should maybe call THOSE people worthless pieces of crap...NOT a guy selling good parts at good prices.

Yes you are entitled to your opinion, but if its a personal attack (and calling someone a piece of shit is a personal attack), then take it off the board...period.

Do you even know what spam is?

Its JUNK. Legit for sale ads are not junk...he's not advertising his business...he's an individual selling stuff...so...he should not post here because he is selling alot of parts? Thats nuts...

So lets get it straight.

He shouldnt post good parts for sale at good prices for BMW 2002s at the BMW 2002 board where people who own and restore them are more likely to see them because he has too many parts...He should take them to ebay, charge more for them so we can post about how this guy sells stuff thats overpriced...That makes absolutely NO sense at all. Spam is the Viagra emails I get for no reason...NOT for sale ads on the BMW board where for sale ads go and ANY member can post them.

Esty,

You are truly a sad and miserable douche... Get a life.

lol...i reckon you and i are somewhat alike then aren't we....

jrhone...i appreciate your opinion but disagree...if you were the largest tire retailer in new york...your money couldn't buy the front page in the times...

at least this topic is front page now instead of getting shoved to the 3rd and 4th pages of the for sale forum, going unnoticed...

spam is spam...regardless of whether it's hawking good deals at good prices or selling garbage...20 ads or 57 is spamming the for sale forum

You can disagree if you want....By definition...its not Spam...

Here is the definition..and the keys here are UNWANTED....if they are legitimate items for sale posted by an individual..then its not spam...

Here is a definition....

"Forum spam is the creating of messages that are advertisements or otherwise unwanted on Internet forums. It is generally done by automated spambots. Most forum spam consists of links to external sites, with the dual goals of increasing search engine visibility in highly competitive areas such as weight loss, pharmaceuticals, gambling, pornography, real estate or loans, and generating more traffic for these commercial websites. Some of these links contain code to track the spambot's identity if a sale goes through, when the spammer behind the spambot works on commission."

Le is not doing anything like that in his posts...so we cant call them spam...now if he was selling Viagra and posted literally 57 items...then yes...spam. Also 20 is NOWHERE near 57. Exaggeration doesnt make it right....

If you dont agree with his tactics...thats your opinion, but he is breaking no rules, written or implied. Calling him a piece of shit...thats wrong...

I think we are getting away from the real reason we have the Forum and the For Sale section at all...

Its not for e-commerce so we can all get rich. Its a place for people who live and breathe 2002s to come and a place to find parts at reasonable prices. Parts that you would have a very hard time finding elsewhere. Why make it harder for the people who need to find those parts? If it were 20 different people selling those parts it would not be an issue, right? People would be seeing those parts and buying them. Since its one guy its an issue? I can see if someones company came in and flooded the for sale section with parts all the time that no one could get there ads in...but thats not the case. He puts ads up, sells parts, moves on. Simple. Funny how like half of those are pending sale already, yet people are complaining that they have parts that have been there for 3 days and are now not on the front page anymore...He must be the reason no one is buying them! He is purposely making people not buy their parts! Come on...

Esty, Bluedevils.. Al,

All due respect for your hard work in producing much needed and well accepted products.

But I gotta ask, as I just don't understand what your aversion is to the obvious and simple solution to this complaint.. a sticky. You love this site for the opportunity it affords you, or you wouldn't be so passionate. You have elevated your offerings to be something that has consistent demand.

.. so what's preventing you from using a sticky?

We can't rightfully begrudge Steve K. if he makes money over and above the expense of providing this wonderful resource for interaction, learning, and propagation of our wonderful hobby.. and even providing total strangers with a method to generate a small amount of income themselves, can we?

I mean, there's apparently nothing left to loose at this point, so let it all hang out.. This topic has stunk up my favorite place on the internet for far too long, I personally have even been schmacked for this..more than once.. and now its led to straight slander our friend Le. Who, I KNOW, works just as hard, if not harder than any of us, to bring occasional batches of collected, prepped and refinished used parts for the community to feast on.

So, could you explain the logic to your aversion for all to understand?

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
