  1. Can I suggest "Kirin_Ichiban"? (as in Kirin Ichiban beer)
  2. Welcome Patrick! I love the idea of a cross-country trip in an 02. The furthest mine has gone is from Dayton to Winston-Salem, NC through the mountains. Tell us more about your Chamonix 02...
  3. Happy New Year to all bimmerphiles, espec. all 02 nuts. May 2007 be a year without rear-ended 02's, a year without "carpet wars", a year with many well-attended vintage BMW events, a year with many improvements, overhauls, repairs, repaints, and mods, & a year with peace breaking out everywhere including the Attack Forum. Best wishes to our troops in the mideast & may they come home in one piece asap.
  4. Justin, Mike was showing me that and trying to turn the motor. It was seized. It is soaking now and maybe it'll free up. I don't miss the motor too much except when the inside of the windshield is totally fogged up and won't dry out for anything. Also, w/out the blower, my right foot gets very hot on those cold days with the heater on. It all comes out at my right foot instead of being distributed.
  5. I look forward to a drive w/you Brian. The heater motor may come in handy. Mine is stuck and it's unclear if it will get unstuck. Thanks.
  6. Sorry Brian. We had a brief window of opportunity and our timing was a bit iffy. I will meet you just about anytime, so let me know & we will get reacquainted, OK? I come down to Cincinnati area quite a bit anyhow.
  7. Thanks to Mike Self for a great drive today. He was troubleshooting my heater blower motor and rooting out rusty spots on my 02. Obvious things like low tire pressure elude me sometimes. I checked them and got them up to pressure w/prodding. Was hoping to have Mike McCarthy bring his 74 Malaga out to join Mr. Self's 73 Sahara (Ludwig) today. Next time Mike. Now I have a nice E30 mirror in place of the 1600-2 mirror I was using. Much bigger and has the day/night lever too.
  8. Blunt, that looks great! I love it. I've got to ask: is it formerly Sahara? That's cool --- I can't defend Sahara in this case! Next time we're up in Coon Rapids visiting our friends, I must come see your 02.
  9. Best wishes to you Bill. Your cornering abilities will improve considerably. Show us your new hip at V@V, OK?
  10. Nothing car-related for me, but my son, Alec, got a book on Lamborghinis, one on Corvettes, a Ferrari shirt, and a BMW "Ultimate Driving Machine" flag. He is killing aliens now with "Gears of War" on XBox 360! My daughter got a Casio keyboard - she suddenly has a big interest in piano. I am big on my Rolling Stone's 500 Best Albums of all time book. Many favorites from my record collection immortalized -- as they say. My wife is holding out for a Jacuzzi tub for the master bath. So, I need to come up w/that before tooo long....
  11. Good luck Glen. That car was (& will be again) beautiful! I had never seen a Pastelblau in showroom condition before. Like any 02, it can look pretty sad when abused. I had only seen abused Pastelblaus til yours. I was out in mine yesterday & nearly got smashed by an SUV in a tight parking lot. A#*hole did not look where he was going, boring right into me, swerved away just in time. Keep us posted on the rebirthing process.
  12. Thanks Matthew & Jeremy, I have the same desire to lower my 02 as Mike. I am also running Bilstein HD's & have a Behr a/c unit. One additional question: should I get the urethane bushings at the same time? Are they worth doing or would orig. BMW parts be best? TIA!!
  13. Monster Mike: Try to attend V@ the V in May. Consider also Watkins Glen in Sept. Since you're in nearby Michigan, please consider yourself invited to the next Dayton area 02 GTG in the late summer of 07. I would really like to see your 02 since I'd like to do some of the same upgrades. Best regards!
  14. It is simple: if someone is uncivil, belligerent, hostile, or otherwise acting like a preschooler who has to have the last word, you SHUN them. This forum is for adults. You can disagree, argue, or complain, but keep it civil and have some self-respect.
  15. I would love to drive that one. Wonder what HP it generates? It appears to be worth that kind of money to me.
  16. Glad you're alive and well David. It is still warm. Cut our own tree yesterday @ Country Pines -- I felt too hot w/a sweater on. I have been running my 02 --the salt was removed by some heavy rains. Lots of Harleys running the past week or two as well. I am saving up for more improvements to the 02. We'll see in the spring when we go to V @ the V.
  17. Looks aside rust can kill you. What if a frame rail breaks or the shock towers give out at 75 MPH? What if the tie rods & ball joints implode at speed? If that's worth $2000, I got one hell of a buy on my 02. Yes, have fun with it, but get it inspected for safety NOW. Kfunk knows how to get his money's worth on a less expensive 02. His took him cross-country, incl. Death Valley. That was cool.
  18. No, mine's a four-speed. (& a LHD for the US market) They must have made them in batches for diff. markets.
  19. Looks like Karl and Dieter have the same exact birthday then. {5-5-75} About a year or so ago, I found on Ebay the car with the very next VIN after mine. I messaged that owner to let him know. His was also a Sahara, non-sunroof '02.
  20. Happy Birthday Ludwig! Dieter got driven yesterday to the Cincinnati area BMWCCA meeting. Very friendly and hospitable group. Alec was recognized right off from his "Driving Light" photos from the trip to Lamborghini Ohio. I had the only 02 there, & it got a lot of notice. Met the Car Locators, Inc. brothers. They are young and full of energy, that's for sure!
  21. Agree w/BLUNT. My kids laughed the hardest, though. I miss the NASCAR of the 60's. Then you had recognizeable cars driven by good ole boys with a lot less $$ & hype. I used to watch a lot of races then.
  22. Buying one that's restored, mostly restored, or a very fine survivor, is a lot cheaper than fixing up a neglected or tired one. -- Unless you are a top notch mechanic and body shop guy, but even then parts can still eat you up. Buy from a FAQ poster &/or BMWCCA member. EBay is questionable at best. (beware!)
  23. I second that! We'd all like to meet you & see your Eurofest car and the other 02 getting the works now in CT. Feel free to join up with us for an outing. Good luck w/both 02's!
  24. I LOVE hearing good news: FAQ'ers helping other FAQ'ers in a friendly manner! No nonsense or nastiness at all.... you are on topic and on target.
  25. My folks were in ( bloody ) Belgium for 5 yrs. due to my dad's job. I got to travel to Europe numerous times. My wife & I plan to do the Benelux region, but we should do Provence & check out your inn. Planning on a trip for the 2 of us in 07 or 08. Hope to meet up sometime!
