  1. Mitch: I don't have a true headcount as yet. I think we will have at least 10 2002's parked together. Hard to say right now. Mike Self will be there (Roundel columnist). You could borrow an '02 or a 320i or something....
  2. Mitch, OT to what you have going here, but.... you oughta consider joining us here in the Dayton area on Sept. 24th. We will be having a 2002 meet in John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs, OH. Hope you can come down.
  3. KOOOOOOOL! You made my day. I hope the '02 performs super like before the mishap! Enjoy.
  4. Speaking of the Prius: my '02 was compared to one last Sunday. My dad is remarried, so my "stepbrother" just bought a new Pruis. I drop in to pick up my daughter who'd been there to play w/his daughter. My dad raves about the Prius and goads me into asking questions and getting a lengthy rundown on all the features of a Prius. This fellow has NO interest in my BMW. For that matter, my dad who used to own an '02 has little interest in '02's. Oh well, he listens to wonder boy, & is impressed with everything he does which is not the case w/me. BTW, I don't see the Pruis at vintage car events 30+ yrs. from now. Cool & Pruis don't go together...
  5. There's a Mintgrun shell on Ebaymotors now that looks pretty nice.
  6. OK. Let me know if you get freed up again. We just got back from a camping trip today...
  7. ummmm, my wife now says that Victor is too far away. Would it be poss. to meet in Geneva instead? We will need to get back to Ithaca later in the day for more wedding related activities. Sorry to throw you a curve, but what do you think of heading to Geneva instead? (our priorities are a little different, i.e. she won't be nutso over the 2000!)
  8. Thanks for the quick reply. OK. We will have our cell phone w/us. We will plan to meet up with you around noon in Victor at that pub. Cell phone: (937) 416-0605. Call me on that am to reconfirm plans. Can you drive the 2000 down to Victor?? Hope so.
  9. Hey Tim: We will be staying in Ithaca on the nights of 8-26 & 8-27. We will have some free time on Sun. the 27th. We can drive north & meet you for lunch or a beer. Would like to see your 2000 if poss. We need to be heading back by 3PM that day, though. Name a nice place & we can meet you there. TTYL.
  10. Thanks for saying the dirty words: Station Wagon. Be honest & buy what you actually need. I needed to haul my 3 kids around & the occasional extra passenger and stuff. That led me to a wagon w/a 3rd row seat. (Taurus wagon) It is a means to an end. Not the coolness factor. I honestly don't need to pull stumps out or drive up mountains. The other daily car is smaller and hauls 1 or 2 people usually. Now what I REALLY want is some SUPER COOL BMW's for my everyday cars, like, I NEED them......!!
  11. If you travel much, people will ask: why do Americans drive such huge trucks, vans, SUV's? It is just embarassing. I have seen tradesmen in the UK, Belgium, France, etc. using what we would call tiny putt-putt vehicles as their "truck" -- plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc. While here you have CPA's, secretaries and bankers driving gigantic macho beasts. You're a sad clone if you have the same-old-SUV as every other weanie.
  12. Scott: Thanks again for putting on a fantastic event in the vineyard. It was well worth the long drive from Ohio. It captured what I like best about '02 ownership: the friendship, the willingness to share knowledge/parts/time, the lack of pretensions, the ability to enjoy something like a kid would.... I went to a car show last summer sponsored by Porsche owners and they certainly had ramrods up their asses. The only guy that was friendly had a 912 w/loads of patina. Anyhow, I'm glad that's not the stereotype of vintage bimmer owners. Without complaining a lot, I do hope next year's write-up tells more about the people, their cars, their struggles to get there, to get their car up and running again, & it must include kudos to you and the others that got it all together. BTW, come up to our event on Sept. 24th @ John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs, OH, Scott! Good luck w/V @ V 2007!!
  13. Open Invite to 2002 owners especially. We will have a picnic and drive on some nearby twisties on that Sun. afternoon. We will congregate there starting at 1PM. We will have signs up to help folks find us in the park. JB State Park is near Yellow Springs, OH. Consider making a roadtrip to meet some MW '02 owners incl. Roundel columnist, Mike Self. This an offshoot of last August's belated 30th birthday party for (my '02) Dieter. This one's even more belated as he was built on 5-5-75! So, it's a birthday party for your '02 as well, regardless of build date. If you need more info. email me at: j.denker@sbcglobal.net
  14. Kevin; that's exciting news. Come by Dayton,OH to see the USAF museum & the Packard museum too. The Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg museum is in Auburn, IN. You're welcome to stop here. Keep us posted on your adventure.
  15. I agree w/Dave Hoovler re. the list of "Why I love the FAQ." These are inspiring moments: people helping eachother and getting along incredibly well due to these vintage machines. Congrats to all of you on the team working on Dubois' '02. Now I need to convince my son that he should lust for a 2002, not a Ferrari or a Lotus...
  16. Very nice, Bill. How many HP are you aiming for after the 1-Billpower'd engine? Any chance this car will be w/you at V @ the V next May?
  17. Mike_R: By the looks of the front plate, you're an Ohioan. Where are you? Feel free to drop by Dayton; we have a number of '02 owners around here. I'm gonna drive mine today for the 1st time in 3 weeks. (been on vacation and then work gets in the way)
  18. FAQboard people come through for a friend in need. That's great to hear, again.... The arguing and sniping can distract from what is a very good thing. Good luck w/the wrenching party!
  19. Randy - I am ignorant of such things, having never been a scammer. Thanks for the info. I think of the old saying: "If it seems too good to be true, then it is too good to be true!" Decency & self respect are just too much to ask of these pissant thieves on EBay it appears.
  20. It's a scam, but what's the payoff? This jerk keeps listing it to no avail. I would be more impressed with a scammer that actually made off with some $$ for his sneaky/jerky efforts. Maybe this joker could go legit & actually sell the '02. Is "tricking" us sooooo clever & funny??
  21. SORRY Steve, that is sad to see. Is that Sahara paint lurking from under the "distressed" Inka paint?? Betcha have yours fixed in no time. Good luck w/repairs. Pictures like that are just SCARY.
  22. Hey Lost: Congrats on your "new" 74 2002. How did you find yours? Was it on Ebay or in the newspaper? You will find this site is fun and helpful. Where is Delmar? I passed through northern NY state on our vacation recently. Anyhow, good luck!
  23. OK, thanks for the reply. I will keep you posted on our itinerary. We just got back from vacation in Camden, ME, (side trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park) then Concord, MA, Ridgefield, CT, Perkasie, PA, & Chalfont, PA. We were visiting friends, fishing, site-seeing, etc. Worked in a few museums. The Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Maine was great. They had a very nice red Isetta 300 there. A new acquisition was a WWII Navy Corsair fighter. Still awesome and brutish after all these years. We drove through upper portion of NY state on our way to Maine. We stayed near Utica on our 1st night away from home....
  24. That's sounds correct, Neal. Zyggie said that the owner also has a turbo! Lucky dog. Do you ever take your car there, Neal?
  25. Hey Tim: I will be in your region soon for a wedding. The nuptials will be on Aug.27th in Lodi, NY. Wonder if it would be poss. to see your 2000 and yak about vintage bimmers? Maybe there'd be a good 1/2 way point. We could hoist a beer and talk for a bit. TIA.
