  1. Nick, good news re. the fix on your car. Nice photo -- what are the ruins in the background?
  2. Wow, that sounds great. Be careful, that is a lot more power than a standard 02. I had been finding Korman vs. Kerman a bit confusing -- not the same thing at all. btw, where is his shop?
  3. Thanks for the tire size recommendation. I want to lower my car for better handling. Possibly Eibach, H&R springs or whatever is best. Should the bushings be switched to urethane at the same time? One friend said to make one change at a time to the suspension pkg. rather than doing too much all at once without getting feedback w/each change made. Make any sense there? Was thinking of going to Yokohama tires too. (have cheap KumHo's now)
  4. Thanks Bill & Justin, I like this thread. My car has new Bilstein HD's & a new center steering link. However mine leans heavily in turns also. I have the orig. springs & have not changed out bushings. Nothing has been done to the sway bars and I seriously want some tires with stiffer sidewalls. When you say lower profile, I take it you mean going to bigger rims than my E21 (13 in.) turbines? What tires would you recommend as well?
  5. I have a pair on my 02 from Bavarian Autosport. Not necessarily the cheapest, but I am thrilled w/them. They are improved vs. the orig. doorbrakes. Solved my floppy door syndrome.
  6. Thanks TMK. I did not recall those earlier postings. My Indpls. friends have heard of him. I hope to meet up with him sometime and see his cars. Serious resto. on his 73 Verona - impressive.
  7. I know the guy's real name is Eric Bernstein. However, I was wondering if he was using the FAQ handle (or name) E_Swift. It seemed like they might be one in the same....
  8. Congrats! Is he E_Swift who posted earlier this month re. an engine & transmission? He needs to come along with Larry and Ben when we have an 02 event here in the midwest.
  9. Personal preference -- do what you like best. If you do black out the trim, do a good job of it. Mine had blacked out trim -- on the cheap. In some places it was black matte rattle can paint & in other places it was electrical tape! It all looked crappy so I took it back to the orig. look. I missed the shining chrome that cars used to have. I sorta miss big tail fins too.
  10. Larry, I am not sure about 73's, but w/my 75, I used the #74 14V lamps made by Sylvania. I got them at AutoZone. It says they're for parking, indicator, intrument and courtesy lights on the package. I had a burnt out bulb on one of the heater slide control panels. That 73 is going to look great.
  11. I have never seen what the fuss was about. It seems that his motives were good ones and everybody got what they wanted out of the deals. It is an individual choice to participate or not. Nothing shocking or wrong with the arrangement imo. I'd rather buy Coop a beer than his critics, that is for sure!!
  12. Welcome to the FAQ and 2002's in general. There are lots of 02's for sale in Calif. and lots of parts too. If you buy a 76, you have to have it smogged in Calif. Buy an earlier one -- no need to smog it. Prices for 02's are better on the west coast due to the large numbers surviving there. Here in Ohio, the ones that are for sale are usually $500 or less -- needing major help -- incl. rust repair and paint. Out there, lots of very presentable cars are available. L.A., San Diego, & San Francisco, espec. have lots of 02's. Good luck.
  13. Ditto your thoughts, Skip. I like all of the events, but I can't do them all. It's a great dilemna to have.... TOO many events, TOO many 02's! So, keep brainstorming guys, no complaints here.
  14. Hey Brian, Please send me an email. I sent you an email which bounced. THanks. (j.denker@sbcglobal.net)
  15. It's subjective... That car does not interest me, but may do the trick for you, however $9K is too high. It's modified too much to have a broad appeal. I think he needs you more than you need him.
  16. Kevin, you've got to get to that 76 Fjord at the Xenia junkyard. They have been clearing things out more quickly there, so hurry. What kind of impromptu offer did you get on your car, btw? Let me know if you're going to hit the boneyard.
  17. I don't have the $$$ to overdo a restoration. Honest!
  18. Mine's not perfect, never will be. Not to say I won't keep improving it with repairs/upgrades, etc. I want to enjoy it; besides, 02's get mad at you if you don't take 'em out & exercise 'em. I totally avoid snow & salt, but rain or a little mud -- no big deal. So, Stella could be in a museum, or be driven. I think that Stella likes being driven & being appreciated!
  19. Congrats Skip! We've hit the 16 yr. mark here. Mary says she would not have married me if she knew of my latent car fixation. Have fun in the Pocanos.
  20. Here in Ohio, we have Ken Blackwell running for Guv. (projected to lose), but he's in charge of elections in this state and he's cozy w/Diebold. We'll see if he loses or "wins." Polls were VERY busy here. Good sign that voters are engaged. Hope so, anyway.
  21. ....your screen saver is full of '02's, not your kids or your wife! ....you have a secret slush fund for '02 parts. ....you are tracking down '02's or shops that work on '02's while you're on your family vacation. ....you're annoyed when people don't know that the '02 saved BMW -- status-seekers never know or care!! ......you're pissed that your dad didn't either give you his '02 or make you one hell of a deal on it back in the late 70's!!
  22. Great pix & a story to tell the grandkids one day. That's what it's all about. If that's the same car you brought to V @ V, it's really looking nice these days. I drove my 02 down to the Cincinnati area yesterday to go to the Bengals vs. Falcons game w/my dad. THe back roads are filling in with houses and strip malls very quickly. I have memories of driving those same roads in my 81 VW Rabbit S years ago. (OH routes 22/3)
  23. You're right about the fountain of youth idea. I feel like I am a 17 year old driving my dad's Golf roundie again each time I head out in mine. I think that is a powerful thing. It puts you in a zone, kind of like the Harley guy who finds it hard to explain to an outsider why he loves riding his Harley so much.
  24. To answer some Q's: No, I am not going to race mine or autocross it. I tend to like a stock look with tasteful upgrades that aren't always obvious at 1st glance. I don't regret the $ put into this car. I enjoy the car quite a lot. I cannot keep numerous cars on the side, so I can do excited over an E30 or an E28 for sale & wish it were mine. (or a NK car...) The only way to own one of those would be to sell my Dieter. It's good to challenge my assumptions to see where I really stand. Unless something big changes, I should stick with improving & enjoying my car.
  25. Good advice so far. Bite the bullet and put in the 5-speed, get the carb and engine humming better, new interior? This will take me a few more years. Any other advice?
