  1. Can’t help with the high prices but I have used Intercity several times and they are very good. They are not a broker like most places. The drivers actually work with the company.
  2. I have a similar unit made by Jacobs that is installed behind the right headlight. I assume the idea was to get a little airflow and keep it cool.
  3. They also make fuel pump priming relays that automatically run the pump for a set number of seconds when the ignition is turned on, then turn the pump off.
  4. Yep, a few good pictures but not tons of detail. The text seems to be written by the Alpina PR department, in German and English, so lots of fluff.
  5. Because capitalism without any regulation incentivizes people to act like assholes.
  6. Sorry, something about the wording of the ad threw me off. The car looks amazing. Taiga is my favorite flavor.
  7. So is this a real Tii, or a 2002 built to Tii specs?
  8. Picked up my Hardy & Beck wheels, freshly refurbished by Kooglewerks.
  9. Bilstein no longer rebuilds their shocks. They will refer you to Performance Shock in Sonoma. Long story but I dealt with Performance Shock recently and found their service poor and their prices shockingly high. I had the opposite experience with RE Suspension in North Carolina. They were super nice and much cheaper. https://www.resuspension.com/product-service
  10. This is really making me regret every dollar I put into my Sahara 1600. It has never looked more tan compared to this Caribe. I'm not sure I even like the light gray interior but it's amazing to see it in such good condition. I would love to see pictures before the repaint. I bet it looked quite charming. @uai Do you know the reputation of this dealer, or place that did the paint?
  11. John, I might have an extra Scheel tilting bracket or two.
  12. I propose a settlement: buyer and seller must only do business with other and must post all correspondence.
  13. Thanks for the great pics as usual, Mark. I have the Bayerischer Bastard article but have never seen a picture of the GS engine bay in color. I've definitely noticed their super butch air cleaner before but never knew it was in blue. As for building a 520i/A4 tribute, I have a 'spare' A4 system that I'd like to put on my 520i one day-- though it's not a super early one like the one in the picture. I've never seen that version in real life. I'm also curious about the air box in that picture. It's clearly a modified version of the stock piece. Not sure if the stock part is metal or plastic. The stock airbox for the carbed version has two outlets, maybe they just Frankensteined a couple of those together. The really rare bits would be the super early Alpina 14" 'Five-hole' alloys-- they were also on E9 CSLs. And the early Alpina front spoiler, very unlike what came on later E12s and E28s.
  14. That's what my Golf 520i wants to be when it grows up.
  15. Thanks! Wish I could get that 'cow catcher' front spoiler. I'm always looking for info on the earlier Alpina 520/4 if you come across anything...
  16. Agreed. You better have dated pictures of the item before it was shipped, in the packaging, etc. And they will demand 'proof' of its value, which is very hard to do with, say, an original 2002 LSD (which they lost).
  17. +1 for Palo Alto Speedometer. I found them to be much, much better than North Hollywood Speed. This should be an easy fix and you get the gauges cleaned and calibrated if you want.
  18. Unfortunately, the basket weave embossing from both GAHH and World Upholstery— and BMW— is much more shallow than what originally came on our cars, at least for the pre-‘74 seats. I found the best match in that regard from SMS Auto Fabrics in Oregon. Unfortunately they are expensive, slow, and don’t make full kits. In terms of kits, I believe World’s kit has one fewer pleat than the stock seats. That would bug me so I would go with GAHH.
  19. Yes. At least in the eyes of most (all?) collectors. Let’s face it, collecting doesn’t make any logical sense or else we’d all be driving new fast Hondas. Also by all accounts Alpina was value added back in the day— in other words the sum was greater than the parts when a car went there. They did have the best technicians; they did have a ‘secret sauce’. Of course 50 years later how much is left of the sauce… The fact that it went to Alpina and has Alpina numbers is worth a premium in this silly made up world of old BMWs. Is it worth $170,000? Hell no😄
  20. I suspect some more money will be put into it to make it right. Stripes are easy to remove, hopefully the paint job was at least decent. Put the interior in another car or sell it off. I've got some Lux interior parts but I've never seen them for sale in white-- I'd work really hard to track those down. I bet we see this car re-merge looking really, really good.
  21. Bidding stalled a bit but one hour to go so we'll see what happens. Seller is really not selling hard. I get the feeling they don't know much about the car. The older pictures Mark has of the car show it to be in nice shape-- but it was painted since then in Italy? Why? That's the biggest question mark for me. Oh, and the details of the engine rebuild. Stickers and interior can be made right relatively easily.
  22. The fact that this car IS real and the work was done by Alpina just makes the sloppy and tacky 'work' done to it all the more aggravating. Forget the stickers and seats, the new paint scares me more than anything. Imagine how great this car would be if it had been restored to a good standard with the original Lux interior. Sweet! I just bought a car from Oldenzaal Classics and it was a good experience-- car was accurately described, tons of pictures and videos, and they handled shipping. BUT-- they had only done basic maintenance on it, no 'restoration'. Very mixed reviews on their work in that regard. Someone says this car has a '77 head, or maybe the whole engine is a '77? So an owner sent it to Alpina a few years after buying it?
  23. The one in Les's picture avoided drilling into the bodywork and looks like they skipped the washer alltogether. But you can't really see the wiper, and let's face it that's most of the fun. These are super cool but hard to imagine putting a hole in the bodywork and a front bumper...
  24. If you're going to sell it here, then do all the little things-- and then people will debate WHICH little things you did and HOW you did the little things and make lowball offers because they already have 4 2002s. If you're going to sell it on BAT, spend way more than you think you need to on detailing and good pictures. Be radically honest about its condition and set aside a week to answer 200 questions with patience and good humor.
