  1. Larger knobs with pictographs were used in Europe were they not? Euro dashes do not have the stencils on the dash itself labeling the knob functions. I’m also having my dash redone— without the USA only seatbelt warning pod— and had to make the decision whether to go ‘full Euro’ and omit the stencils as well.
  2. That looks like a Ferris Bueller situation about to happen.
  3. Mine are '67 but great minds think alike.
  4. His enthusiasm and kindness will be missed for sure.
  5. Thanks 'Milo'! If you have some clock glass, that would be great.
  6. Looks like I found glass for tach, thanks. Would still be interested in the glass for the clock-- with the hole in the middle.
  7. Anybody know where to get replacement glass for the gauges? Specifically for the tach and/or gas/temp gauge? I also put a WTB ad up on the classifieds. Thanks, Michael
  8. Looking for glass the for the tach and/or gas/temp gauge (speedo glass is bigger). The glass from a clock with the hole in the middle would also be OK. Thanks, Michael
  9. I appreciate discussing the alternative, since I'm choosing between the two. I have a question I hope is on target enough since it relates to the lithium-ion or small AGM batteries used in either solution-- How will they hold up in a car with a heavier electrical draw-- driving lights, a couple of audio amplifiers-- and therefore a higher output alternator?
  10. @uai I bought some correct carbs off a 1600Ti from @VintageAutobahn and had them restored by Paltech (who apparently are no longer in business). Of course, I have not actually put them on the car, and at this rate I might have to rebuild them again before the car ever runs.
  11. Don't need it but would love to see a picture.
  12. Love that he's putting that car on the track! True player
  13. Or find a place that has done old BMW parts before.
  14. Steve, The 1600Ti with the extra mirror is my car. It's an old picture the original owner had from when he used to road trip with his family from Alberta, Canada to Disneyland. The car still has the extra mirror-- and the stub of the original mirror. Interesting choice that has lasted 30 years or so at least. Despite the different colors, I'm 90% sure this car has its original nose panel and fenders (what's left of them). That reddish color I think is some experiment at priming or remediating rust at some point. But the nose panel has no snorkel. Also the front trim piece on the car is dimpled. Maybe there were very early 1600Ti's without blacked out grills, and then BMW started blacking them out on the 1600Ti when the 2002 came out? Unknown to me, but I've never seen one, or a picture. I have the same 3 page 1600Ti brochure, dated July, '68, but printed in German.
  15. My memory/understanding is that the 1600Ti did get blacked out grills from the beginning because they came out around the same time as the 2002 and either A, BMW wanted the 1600Ti to look more like its big brother 2002 b/c it was the performance version and/or B, that was just BMW's design language at the moment and they wanted to be consistent. I think some of this might be covered in the '66 1600 thread on the British site but I recall that the early 1600s did have black painted section on their embossed nose sections but that these wore off quickly-- that being both the reason you don't see them today, and the reason BMW gave up on the idea. On the rear trim piece, wasn't there 3 iterations? Black stickers, black paint, and then no black sections.
  16. My ‘68 1600Ti has black highlights on the back trim piece. I can’t swear that it is original but it has only had one other long term owner— 40years+ — and is in a beautifully original state of decrepitude.
