  1. okay i just tried to jump start it and got nothing. no movement from the starter whatsoever. starter solenoid is new, battery is newish although drained.
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOoovHLpZJY this is basically all i get from the starter now. battery charged overnight (my multimeter is broken so i cant check the voltage) and gave me a few cranks then gave up. i was trying to turn it over for the rest of the video, but battery is flat again i think. bad ignition relay? i started the car and it idled about a week ago (albeit with no downpipe attached). between now and then i haven't touched the starter. i may or may not have left the battery connected and the ignition switched to accessories, so that might account for a flat battery at least.
  3. you know when a car battery goes flat, and the starter clicks instead of turning the engine over? well mine doesn't do that. instead it does short pulse-like turns of the starter which makes a hell of a racket and can't be good for the drive plate or starter. i replaced the solenoid on the starter a while back and gave the casing a good clean out of carbon dust, but it worked fine until just the other day. is there supposed to be a capacitor or something in the starter to prevent it turning unless there is enough voltage? battery is on charge now so i'll give it a go tomorrow anyway.
  4. they are all quite ugly imo, unless you're into cars that are shaped for good speed over water.
  5. whitehorse industries in melbourne will make custom barrels and lips. sounds like you have the right idea then.
  6. they'll be very expensive, otherwise why not? if you're referring to the fact that BBS state "not for road use", you're a sucker haha. same as "do not remove this tag" on a mattress.
  7. your tail lights look a bit faded. mint otherwise! lucky as.
  8. I've been pretty busy working on this thing and i'm making good progress. i'm going nuts (and bolts) with the snowball effect with replacing hardware, repainting bits and pieces and just generally making the car more pleasant to put back together. repainted the downpipe, all new 10, 13, 17 and 19mm nuts and bolts, gaskets and seals, cleaning, cleaning and some more cleaning. i adjusted the boot as well so it shuts nice and easy now, had to make a new lower shift boot because they are NLA, and it seems to work well. mcguyered some new bushes for the shift rod out of MK1 Golf/Rabbit shifter bushings i had lying around. i can't wait to be driving it again because it's going to feel like a much nicer car to drive! i built some BBS wheels today for a friends car and the 2002 became a table. BBS by Jace B., on Flickr hopefully i'll have proper registration soon, so i can drive the car daily and take lots of pictures of it out and about under it's own power!
  9. i bought an ebay hub from hong kong i think, i had to get tricky with a horn contact but it works and cost me about $40.
  10. you should get nice even pulses of fuel from after the pump, have someone crank the engine while letting the fuel squirt out into a container.
  11. my '76 had these too. i've had old VW's and Benzes and never seen these clamps, they're very strange but cool!
  12. so they'll be 16x7.5 ET0 after adaptors that's going to need flares. big ones.
  13. are you sure you don't want to send them to me in australia?
  14. i ported out the stock manifold for a 32/36 and it works great. if you're really keen, and depending on your cam/jetting, you can port/mill it out to a bell shape for a bit more flow
  15. http://youtu.be/0YnTdZLCBhI should a rear main seal be harder to push into the housing than this? i'd really rather replace the housing now than reinstall everything only to find it still leaking. where the lump was, there was RTV and silicon around it to seal it (really?!) and the lump appeared to be from the casting of the housing.
  16. The sarcasm here had me rolling - good one. this guy gets it ^
