  1. Very sexy car. Apparently they all need rear suspension bushings. I have talked my mechanic in to replacing mine which involves him ordering a new tool. Even still I will come in well under your 8k lower budget range. You should be able to find a pretty nice one in your budget range. I went for the first one I looked at which seems to be my M.O. A 1999 528it non sport. Really comfortable car. Slow as mentioned above but competent once up to speed. The 6 bangers have all aluminum front subframe (rears as well) where as the v8s have steel front subframes. V8s have their steering rack located differently as well I believe. There is some confusion at least for myself about engines. The buyers guide in bimmer says that all wagons use the m54 motor that is all aluminum and shared with the E46. This I take to mean that it is the same motor as in my wife's 330i. But questions on bimmerforums as well as the drive test somewhat convince me that the motor is not the same (not much willingness to rev but good for cruising). Although I'm pretty sure my block is aluminum. Like I said a good motor for cruising and good mileage to boot with the auto (non step for me). I love it so far and definitely see more in my future. I'm using it as a work truck.
  2. Is heart disease. Just please take a moment to look over this website: http://forksoverknives.com/ If you want to take it further you can find the film on Netflix. If you are really serious my wife has an open offer to buy you this book http://www.amazon.com/30-Day-Vegan-Challenge-Ultimate-Compassionately/dp/0345526171/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316744658&sr=8-1 You can friend her on facebook Elisa Johnson if you want to speak to her directly or just reply to this thread and I'll show it to her.
  3. My parents have a house in Ocean Shores Washington. You can drive on the beach there but according to my mom it is risky this year. Also the water is really gross down there right now. So. We are relaxing on the beach when we see a poor Dodge Ram get stuck. His buddy in a Dodge Dakota nearly burns his clutch up to kingdom come trying to get it out. We wander over there to get some photos and maybe watch a vehicle be devoured by the ocean. My instincts kick in and I educate these fellows about how to get a vehicle unstuck using the resources at hand: a plank shaped piece of driftwood, a shovel, and a jack. Eventually his buddy shows back up with a non-clutch vehicle at about the same time as the towing rig (a circa 1975 suburban with a winch) shows up. In their absence we have dug enough and jacked enough to get the Dodge's axle off the sand. It is then easily pulled out. [/i] I am not the guy featured in the photos.
  4. Tron and I really bonded on this "drive". My uncle raised and lowered that bridge for as long as I can remember.
  5. FKNA! Way too cool and I'm jealous. Although I do live in the PNW where I'm sure it is much cooler though lower in elevation.
  6. On my 320 the battery light would occasionally come on after the car was turned off. Mostly after I'd ran through deep puddles or slush. I found the wires coming off the alternator had rubbed raw on the oil filter and the bare wires were contacting the oil filter maybe conducting better with the moisture. So long story short, check the covers of the wires coming off the alternator.
  7. What did he say about your collector plate? And what was your reply?
  8. It is a convertible. He also said it was 2 liters. He seemed genuine and I find it hard to believe that he's been telling people it's the motor from an M3 for twenty years, including his mechanic, and hasn't been set straight yet. So if I see him again I'll try pinning him down on the hp number. Could the car somehow have been sourced out of Canada?
  9. Will you accept an S14 instead? I walk up to the ski lift line where my wife is holding our place. There is a guy in line obviously speaking to her. I hear things like, "chain driven double overhead cam instead of belt drive...". And I just continue to put my skis on wondering why my wife is listening to this guy when just the day before I bored her to death talking about Datsun B210s. So finally I ask this guy what he is going on about after he tells us he would rather pick up women on dates in his Cherokee rather than his BMW so as not to impress them too much. He says he bought one of the last of the E30s and they were probably out of standard engines so they gave him an engine from an M3. He's put 270k miles on it since new. He's had work done such as the waterpump more than once. He said engine output was 170hp. Does this sound plausible. I believe the guy. Why would he make something like that up. And if he's had work done and owned the damn thing for 270k he must know which engine is in there. Any thoughts? The car is a 318i convertible. I didn't get the year.
  10. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1565138 Did you see this?
  11. This is not normal. I would first look around the gas tank. Without mudflaps, any old rock that gets thrown up by the right rear tire is going to hit the gas tank. Also the gas tank has a seam that can leak. With as much dirt that can collect on to the tank, gas doesn't necessarily have to be dripping on to the floor. Fortunately you can seal the tank from the inside. Check your local auto parts store.
  12. The problem with the Seattle area is the forecasting. They get it wrong so often. Luckily I had chains in the e21. Installed them at work and had no problem getting home. (It is flat and only about 3 miles).

  14. Certainly looks like the exhaust in that picture.
  15. I see the mercedes driving around during the formula one races and it sounds amazing. I for one think (especially from your head-on photos) that it looks better than that ferrari. What gives? Which is funner to drive?
  16. I would love to go to a Seattle meetup. Alki on Sunday sounds great. Here is a photo from the last Seattle Meetup I went to. Mine is the red one.
