  1. Sweet! If thats the original paint on the car I would mask it so not to paint over it.
  2. I doubt it still works. If you live in an emmisions state like The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia like I do, you will have to leave it in to pass the visual part of the emmision test. Check your local smog laws to see if its safe to rip all that emmisions crap out! If your car is smog exempt your good to go. If you attatch a wooden handle to the carbon canister it will look like those German potato masher grenades they used in WW2!
  3. Haha! That Martini shaker is the carbon canister. It was used to soak up the fuel vapor on emmisions cars ( I think ) The hose under the air cleaner is the ventalation for the head. Mine pushes alittle oil. I think its normal. Others will chime in with more detailed replies. David
  4. I'm still in awe at how some people can charge $30 in shipping costs on a $10 part! I guess you gotta make your money somehow.
  5. Looks good! What did you use to paint the subframe? David
  6. In all their catalogs Ive never seen a BMW horn. If you have the original horn just measure the diameter and purchase a BMW wheel centercap roundel. They cost a few bucks and come in different sizes. I was looking at the woody Grant wheel ( Nardi knockoff ) and was planning on adding the roundel in the center horn button. Heres how cheap you can get one for................ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E39-X5-X3-M3-M5-540-530-Z3-Wheel-Emblem-318ti-Z4_W0QQitemZ200140499932QQihZ010QQcategoryZ38655QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  7. I still use 'em in my '76 2002. I have an aftermarket racing seat bolted to the floor and the seat belt fits great. If I lean forward the belt will lock in place and then retract back, so I know it works. I do feel safe with the original belts. But if the crash is gnarly enough no seat belt will save you. David
  8. Its there for you. His number is (818) 285-2385. David
  9. Give Jack Fahuna a try. He's got lots of parts in his garage. He might have what you are looking for. Plus he's in Van Nuys, not to far away. Good luck! P.S. Winston, we are in the Los Angeles area. David www.probimmer.com
  10. Here's the conversion from here on the FAQ's website. It lists all the parts you need. You can do it yourself with a few parts from a E30 318i. Manifold, fuel rail, throttle body, etc.....You can also give Ireland Engineering a call. They are working on a fuel injection kit as well. Also look over at the project blog section. Many FAQer's have done it. Good luck! David http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/16/32/ www.bmw2002.com
  11. Damn, Charlie. That looks badass. I'd buy one! David
  12. Check your hazard switch. Your blinkers are wired into the hazard switch, and if it goes bad so will your turn signals. My blinkers failed one day, replaced the hazard switch and all was well. Good luck. David
  13. Were they brass floats? Ive heard of the brass floats wearing out after years of use. Thats why they make them with plastic now.
  14. Here is a photo from a fellow FAQers web site. Great pics! http://bmw1602.lostbrazilian.com/v1/viewer.php?albid=157&stage=3&imgid=685
  15. They are held on by a few bolts. Open the trunk, and you'll see 3 round caps. Remove the caps to get to the bolts. I think they are 18mm. Remove the 3 in the trunk. There is one in the center and one on the left and right side. Make sure to remove the accordian rubber things first. Then give it a few tugs. This might be the hardest part. In the front, open the hood and you will see two bolts on the frame rail. Those are for the bumper. Again, remove the accordians first. You will have to remove the battery and break out all the extentions you have. This is a fairly easy mission. Good luck! David
  16. Go for it! I would go turbo but having a '76 in California sucks Probably going to do an M20 swap to get it smog legal. Personally, I wouldnt trust these cheap Ebay turbos. Look locally for used or rebuildable turbos from OEM companies or aftermarket companies like Greddy or HKS. There are lots of Nissan SR20DET turbos floating around at reasonable prices. Anyway, good luck and have fun. Hopefully Ill see everyone at the next 02 get together. David
  17. Try Ireland Engineering www.bmw2002.com
  18. Sorry to hear about your experience, Cyrus. Ive purchased things from them in the past and have had no problem. Ive never had them ship anything to me, I just go pick it up. Its about a 25 minute drive for me. I do agree with you, though. Service was MUCH better when they were in Sun Valley. Im not sure if Nelson was thier head mechanic. I know Mike Brown used to work there (very nice guy) and another guy ( with a mustache and beard). That dude knew all the BMW part numbers from memory! David
  19. Ooooo.......nice This one is also very tempting!! http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/372234040.html David
  20. There is a shop on the corner of Colorado and Eagle Rock Blvd in Eagle Rock. They only work on BMWs and Minis. There is mechanic who works in the back named Mike Brown. He got my 02 running great, but he also works on other BMW cars. I think the shop is called the M store. But Im not sure. Others will chime in with the correct name Im sure. Good luck David http://www.google.com/maps?q=Colorado+Blvd+%26+Eagle+Rock+Blvd,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90041,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title
  21. Try Hobby People..........heres a few. They have larger sizes too. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/626452.asp David
