  1. You can do it yourself. Its not to hard and its a good way to get familier with your engine bay. The thermal reactor is obvious. Chuck it. Remove the air pump. Its located under the alternator just ahead of the oil filter. Under the intake manifold is the EGR muffler. There are two bolts in the intake manifold that hold it on. Remove them and the small muffler along with the EGR valve will come loose. You will also have to plug some vacuum ports on the intake manifold. The electrical can be confusing, but its not difficult. There is a silver box on the driver side firewall and a couple of sensors that have to be removed along with a good amount of wiring. Take your time. I did it. Took me a few hours but it was well worth it. Good luck!!
  2. You'll have too make your own. But its been done. The bad thing is that the brake master/ booster assembly are in the way. So is the steering box. And the exhaust is on the wrong side. Good luck!! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/801686
  3. Congrats!! But remember, you still have to smog '76 02's in California. Major bummer!!!
  4. Try Jack Fahuna. He's in Van Nuys so its not too far. Really nice dude who knows 02's like the back of his hand. www.probimmer.com
  5. Yeah, I know how you feel. I have to smog mine in June!! Unfortunatly I removed all my smog equipment waiting for the 30 year rolling exemption. Then the Governator took over and I have to smog my 02 after all. What a bitch. Here is a diagram I believe is from a '76. I've been told to replace the EGR valve and get an electronic ignition if you haven't already. New plugs would be good to. There are also fuel treatments they sell that can help clean your engines internals before a smog test. Hope this helps!!! http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,download/id,16930/ EDIT!!! Try this stuff. It just might work! http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=CRC&MfrPartNumber=05063&CategoryCode=3233
  6. You might want to try Michael Brown. Last time I checked (like 2 years ago) he was working at the M shop in Glendale, on the corner of Colorado and Eagle Rock Blvd. Last time I saw Mike he was redoing the frame rails on a '72 Bavaria. His worked looked very good. He is not affilliated with the M shop, buts works behind the building in his own little shop. He is a very nice guy and does very good work. Hope this helped. http://www.themshop.com/
  7. I was driving my 02 on Sunday afternoon when it started to rain. I flipped the wiper switch and nothing. I had to drive home in the pouring rain, very freaky! I checked the wiper switch today and can hear a clicking sound in the wiper relay everytime I turn on the wiper and choose a speed. But they still do not work. The fuse looks good so I think the relay is fried. Is there any way to check if the relay is still good? Is there anything else I should look at? Many thanks!!
  8. I had the Volvo big brake kit on my 76 02, then one of the junkyard calipers started to leak. I couldnt find another one at the boneyard so I put the original brakes and hubs back on. I had rebuilt my calipers so what the hell. The thing is I have a Tii master cylinder and Im wondering if it will work ok with my 02s stock calipers. I did the change over today and took it for a spin and they worked fine. So am I just worrying to much? Thanks!
  9. I have an OG BMW manual and I think it says about 80lbs. I could be wrong, though.
  10. Wow, John. I cant imagine what its like to lose your home. That is so tragic. Im so glad you and your family made it out ok, and I wish you and your family the best of luck as you go through this difficult time.
  11. My girlfriend got me a neat poster from a race at Road Atlanta from Ebay. Its from the late 80's i think. Its some kind of BMW sponcered historic race and it has a 2002 on it as well as a Boss 302 and Camaro. Cool stuff. Though it might be as old as what you are looking for.
  12. I go to the one in Sun Valley, on Penrose Ave. I was there on Monday and they had a 1976 2002 (mostly stripped), and a couple of 320i's and lots of E30 318's and 325's. There is lots of good stuff there most of the time. Its off the 5 South, not far from San Fernando.
  13. I dont have a Tii, so Im not sure if these will work, but I was looking at these on Ebay. Pretty cheap if you ask me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-80-Amp-Alternator-2002-1600-1800-2000-1966-1976_W0QQitemZ360011759491QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item360011759491
  14. Thanks, Scott. I totally forgot about Rock Auto. I ordered the last 2 front calipers they had last night. Total was $80 with shipping! I thought I was going to have to spend at least that much on one rebuilt caliper! And they didnt require the old calipers as a core. Sweet!
  15. Tii's are faster, have bigger brakes and are more collectable. I have a 76 and it does have emmisions hardware. I removed all the emissions crap then the Governator decided to smog all cars 76 and above. So now Im screwed. I hear 76 models are the most reliable because they had all the bugs worked out. If youre looking for a cheap, reliable daily driver I would choose the 76. Tii are great but parts only seem to be getting more expensive.

  21. My car has been out of action for about 3 months as I cleaned up the engine bay and installed a new exhaust system. I removed the intake/exhaust manifolds, fuel pump, starter and alternator to give the engine a good scrub down. I reinstalled all the parts and tried to start it up today and the fuel pump wont pump. It worked fine before. I checked the lines and they are not clogged. I didnt touch the carb so I think its ok. When I was trying to get it fired I noticed that the fuel in the fuel line only moved back and forth about an inch in the line as the engine cranked (no carpet in cabin).I remove the pump and pumped it with my hand and I can hear it sucking and blowing air out the other side. I did not use new gaskets for the pump, because I couldnt find any. Could this be the problem? Also I believe the pump is the original, as it was covered in lots of dirt and oil. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! And to all a Happy New Year.
