  1. Wow! Congrats! Thats a scary speed for a flying brick. How stable was she at that speed? I remember when I was 21 I took my old '89 300zx to 131 mph on a straight on the 110 freeway. Man that was fun! But I believe that my nuts have shrunken with age. I wouldn't try that now! David
  2. Scott and his Bimmer sittin in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.................
  3. Looks nice! I finally got the brakes done and now somethings up with the ignition! I tell you, if its not one thing its another. Hopefully I'll get it all sorted out so I can make it on the 30th. David
  4. Since I dont have any real kids.........does a big coughed up hairball on my mattress count?! David
  5. I really like the look. Hoping to do that to mine soon, but with less decals. What kind of wheels are those? David
  6. Man, thats CHEAP. A rebuilt engine and trans for $350?! I would jump on it. You can always sell it later and make a few extra bucks. David
  7. My condolenses to his family and friends. RIP Mitch. David
  8. When my father and I replaced mine we put the front of the car on ramps and lifted the rear on stands. We did remove the transmission cross member and placed some wood under the transmission to support it. Leave the car in neutral so you can rotate the driveshaft by hand. Its much easier to loosen the bolts that way. You might have to loosen the center bearing too. Just remember to line up the trans and driveshaft or the guibo will fail prematurely. The bolts were a pain in the ass to remove, but putting everything back together was easier. Good luck. David
  9. Congrats! I know how happy you are. I got my 02 running a couple of weeks ago after messing with the brakes and other stuff for months! Good luck with it in the future. David
  10. I went to see a 1984 BMW 318i this morning and needed some help on what this problem might be. The car starts and idles fine, but when you press the accelerator the engine misses and runs rough. Like its being starved for fuel. The owner thinks its the fuel pressure regulator or the injectors. I have a FPR and new injectors in my closet. I was going to convert my carbed 76 02 to 318i fuel injection so I have a few E30 items. The car is only $400 so I want to jump on this deal. It looks very good and its plates are up to date. The owner has replaced both internal and external fuel pumps, fuel filter, plugs and other items. Please let me know what you think its problem is. I want to make my decision tonight and give him a call. Car is in Woodland Hills, about 30 miles from me in LA. So I would like to drive it home rather than tow it. Any info will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!! David
  11. Thanks to all who gave me advise on my rough running weber question. I removed it today to give it a carb cleaner bath and decided I should rebuild it while Im at it. What can I soak the carb in (if I can?!). Also, what do I have to remove in order to soak it. Jets etc?......I ordered the rebuild kit so I want to soak it to remove all the oil and grime from the outside and give the inside a good cleaning. Let me know what you guys and gals have used. Rebuilding it instead of buying a new one will save me some cash. Thanks! David
  12. I finally got the brakes on my 76 2002 worked out and now I have a new problem. My weber is acting up. Last week the car drove fine. I replaced all the fuel lines in the engine bay and also the fuel filter. I turned her on this morning and she wont hold idle. The only way to keep her running is to keep my foot on the gas and sometimes this doesn't help. Engine is now running very rough. Feels like not enough fuel is getting to the engine. I checked the fuel pump and its pumping. Im guessing that when I replaced the fuel hose, something must have gotten into the carb. Whats the first thing I should check? This carb is old and I plan on getting a new one as soon as I can afford it. But want to keep driving my 02 in the meantime. Also, the engine timing is not perfect. I dont have a timing gun and set it by turning the dist. until the car ran nice and smooth. I dont think its the timing because the car ran good before and I have not messed with the timing since. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. David
  13. I beleive it snaps into place. Give it a few tugs and it should come right off. Good luck. David
  14. They didnt set the springs on the upper bearings right. The whole shock and spindle assembly spin on the upper bearing. When I replaced my shocks I did the same thing. The springs didnt seat correctly and I heard popping sounds. It even made turning the steering wheel a little harder. Lift the car and try to set them in place. Or take it back and have the shop do it. Good luck! David
  15. Congrats on your 02, Brice! Man, that was some trip! Cant wait to see some pics! Good luck with our new 02! David
  16. Not sure what the pass levels are, but, that will never work here in California. Because before the sniffer test your car must pass a visual inspection to make sure all emissions hardware is in place. If its missing any part of the emissions equipment the test is over. You lose! Dual Webers is a no-no here for emissions. David
  17. Im in your boat, Bro. I also have a good running 76. I removed all the smog equipment enticipating the 30 year rolling exemption. Then the Governator stepping in and crashed the party. I dont want to sell my car. I think eventually I will do an M20 engine swap from an late 80s 325i. This will give your 02 a modern engine that will comply with emmissions for years to come. Plus it has horsepower and torque ratings in the 160s. You can also purchase a 74 or 75 shell and swap vin #'s. Im thinking about doing this too. Illegal? Yes. But I have no plans of selling my 02 so it might be ok. Others will chime in with their opinions. This is a very popular question concidering there are so many good running 76 cars in California. Good luck! David
  18. Depends on what kind of ride you are looking for. If you want the factory ride then just get replacement Boge shocks. If you want something firmer get some Bilstein sport shocks like I did. These shocks are have mucho firmness. Not to great on bumpy roads but nice on smooth roads. I think Bilstein HD shocks on your stock springs would probably be the best combo for city driving. Plus Bilsteins last forever. Good luck. David
  19. Haha!! If I show up in my 02 I would win that hands down!! David
  20. Thanks, guys. Max, I ordered that part and a couple of other things from your web site. Thanks again! David
  21. Ive decided to put the original air cleaner back on my 76 2002. But I tore one of those rubber mount thingy's that attatch to the air cleaner to its mounting brackets. What the hell are these things called and where can I get them. There are 3 of them. Any help would be great!! Thanks! David
  22. Thats looks like it! I remember those wheels. Ive never seen such a nice 1600 before so I may have gotten the colors mixed up. David
